In my old age it is alittle harder to chord. I have 9s on my strat and it plays easy but I love 10s. I tuned down a 1/2 step and it is really easy to play. Being tuned down if I put 10s on is it going to help make the sound not quite as brite. What are the advantages. I should probably put a set of 10s on to see. I need to decide before I take it into to have a set up done on it. Thanks

what exactly is the problem just put some .10 strings on your strat and try it out. if you like the sound, make a full setup after that (neck, intonation, springs). you don't have to do a full setup just for trying out a different string size, especially in your case (tuned down).

Put 10s on went back to nines. Will have a set up done with 9s. On my Ibanez with the 24 3/4 inch scale I can use 10s but the Strat I'll have to stick with 9s.

Just a note for you, GHS makes 9.5 sets. Very balanced. They could do the trick for you!
