[glow=red,2,300] If you have checked out my homepage you have seen my black satin strat. It is one of my favorite sounding guitars and so far I've only shielded and added an on/off switch. Playing the bridge and neck pickups together is my favorite.
Anyway, I've got the itch to pull the stripes and paint it. The original finish has no dings so I know it will be no problem to take some fine grit sand paper and prep the finish for painting. I don't know the type of paint used for that finish and I was wondering if anyone knew how Kraylon paints will react to it. I don't want it to blister up.
I refinished a 1960's "Old Kraftsman" a while back that turned out quite pretty, but I totally striped that to the wood due to chips and dings in the finish. It's not that I didn't enjoy doing it, but I'm trying to avoid about three days of prep and work.
Thanks in advance. [/glow]

most likely a polyurethane finish and plastic-based paints were used, so any standard sprays should work. just to be safe, find a spot that'll be covered like a PU cavity and do a test squirt. i've painted on top of existing paint like that and even though there's no wood prep, it still takes time--mostly letting things dry. i forgot the brand i used but it was pretty much a standard one like KRYLON. StratLover recommends EMRON brand--see the painting thread in the Luthiere section also: projectguitar.com and reranch.com/
