Hi all; Finally had time to write a bit of a review for my latest purchase: 2005 Simon and Patrick 6 Sun Burst finish high gloss. -cedar top -wild cherry back and sides -silver leaf maple neck(satin finish) -rosewood fret board -hand made in Canada!! -Fort EPP case -$650 cdn
To begin with this guitar is beautiful. The pictures on the website(simonandpatrick.com), make the sunburst finish look darker than they actually are. Mine looks more like a cherry sunburst. The grain on all the different parts is beautifully figured, and i haven't noticed any imperfections in the finish.
The sound is also beautiful. Very warm and full sounding. The best way I can describe it is balanced. Nothing stands out (i mean this in a good way!). While playing some Bob Dylan songs, I noticed that it has a sort of natural chorus to it which sounds great. While playing some bluesy things, notes have a good amount of sustain. The only potential downside that i can see/hear, is that it doesn't seem to be as loud as some dreadnought's i have played. This doesn't bother me to much as i plan on installing a pickup when i get some more money.
My favourite part of this guitar has to be the neck. It is simply amazing!!! I normally don't like satin finishes but this one works well for me. It is fast and smooth, and the perfect size for my hands. The frets seem to be in good shape, at times i notice a slight buzz on the low E, but nothing that would cause major problems. The action is also amazing. Whether i'm playing some "folky" things, or some blues licks, i can pull them off with ease.
Overall, i couldn't be happier. I had planned on buying a simon and patrick mini jumbo, but when i played this one I had to have it! In my opinion it is a great value, especially if you live in Canada, because they are made in Quebec, the distributers don't have to compensate for duty. so it really is a good deal.
Also, the Fort EPP case made by Lasido(S&P parent company) is wonderful. Check out the website or google it because it is a great new product!

Well done jdl !! I agree, the S&P's I have seen and have tried are amazing instruments. I have made up my mind that when I do get my twelve string (Income tax refund) Its going to be a Simon and Patrick. Yes, its unfortunate that we pay duty on Fenders and Les Pauls etc. but hey!...What happened to free trade? hehe

Hey deep; Which S&P 12 string are you thinking about? The satin finish or the sunburst? Also, (if you haven't already), check out the Fort EPP cases that Lasido makes. They are awsome. And maybe your local dealer will be kind enough to throw one in for free!

Hey jdl... I was thinking of the Pro series. Im not a big fan of sunburst accoustic guitars. I know to each his own, but in my opinion the only sunburst that I think is visually attractive is a Les Paul. The Pro series is pricey, but ill see if I can get a deal. In Canada??..Ya right!!
