Greetings Lunaalta! I spoke to my friend who is very familar with Gibsons that were in Europe during the early and mid 80's. He says that it looks and sounds like a Japanese made Gibson, made for only the Europian market. (It's very similar to a Tobia bass that Gibson was copying for the Japanese market.) He believes that it was made at the famous Matsumoku plant, where the Japanese Epiphones, Aria's, Westones, etc, where made. A Quick question though, is the Gibson logo inlayed, or a gold silkscreen?

Hi all, The Gibson Custom Shop logo is silk screened onto the head. Can't find any 'made in ...' info on the guitar. It has a standard Nashville addressed quality check list/guarantee card inside, along with a bag of dessicant from Ohio. Don't know if that helps at all..... 2 EMG PUs active, 2 volume 1 tone control. The controls are very responsive and smooth, no noises there either. No noises, hums, or whatever, anywhere. Fittings look to be good quality, certainly feel very good. Had to tighten the pot securing nuts, which was not easy as the knobs didn't want to come off and I wasn't about to force them Oh, by the way, I'm no bass player, but this beast plays like a dream and, through my little Fender Sidekick 25, sounds lovely. The owner uses an Ampeg valve bass amp (phew... another friend has one and they are, how shall I put it, BASS AMPS). The neck is thinner than my 73 Strat, the action is low and easy. Everything is very much in tune and those deep notes are clear and true. I sat for ages last night just tripping away on this thing, which I usually find hard on basses, and I've played some cool ones on and off over the years. If I had to sit in on bass one night, instead of guitar, I'd be up for it if I could play this beastie My friend say's he prefers this when he is recording because it is much quieter than his other basses (he has about 18 at home, all good ones ). When we rehearse and play out someplace he is using some kind of Fender Pbass. Sounds dangerous in his hands He is Norwegian, by the way, over 6 foot tall and a gentle giant ('cept when we rock serious ) Can't wait to get it recorded, later today.... I was just interested in the magic fingers that put this bass together. They sure know what they are doing

Oookay.... Cause of the silk screen logo, and the lack of the "Made in USA" stamped in the back of the headstock, I tend to agree with my friend. (although honestly, I'm not sure now.) Another question. What's the serial #? I can see somrething, but I can't quite read it. Hopefully, we can discover the origins of this beast.

Serial number: 90558017
Comes across clear as a bell when recording too! I'm gonna be borrowing this animal for as long as I can, LOL.

FOUND IT!!! 90558017 Made on 2/25/98 LELAND SKLAR SIGNATURE BASS (CSLS[ ]SN) - offset double cutaway maple body, bolt-on maple neck, 34" scale, 21 fret rosewood fingerboard with pearl dot inlay, fixed bridge, 4on a side tuners, chrome hardware, 2 P-style EMG split-coil pickups, volume/blend/tone controls. Available in Ebony (EB) and TriBurst (TBI) finish. Mfr. 1997-98. The above is from the Blue Book of guitar values. I'm not sure of the place of birth, Serial # says Montana, but they never built basses there. Think it's the Nashville plant. At least I know now that my friend was wrong. Mark it on your calenders! Now, can I get some Karma here! ;D

Wow mlrpa, that's amazing! Only the tuners are chromed on this one, the rest is a kind of dull grey finish.... Karma coming up, LOL..... LOL, with 500 watts of Ampeg, don't you dare tell him to get a bigger amp I think what he meant (his English is good, but still a little bit missing) was that the Fender sounds a little fuller and dirtier. Well folks, even if I had found out bad news, I love this bass beast.

as i said, it is easy thing to do to add some clean boost or active tone controller to an active circuit. then it will sound as dirty as he wants
you might see i am an active pu fan ;D

...LOL, with 500 watts of Ampeg, don't you dare tell him to get a bigger amp .... amen! that thing sounds almost as loud as the 300 watt Ampeg! either of them cranked, and the volume level is nearly toxic. great tone controls too! unk

Yeah, they are nice, unk. He says when he hooks up both cabinets it sounds louder with the same volume settings, neat. Spoke to Christian (Gibson owner) today, he told me this was a limited (100) issue bass. I told him it was awful and he should really throw it in my direction, but he didn't go for it, LOL. Gonna bring his MusicMaster fretless to me to try to get rid of a buzz it has picked up recently. Ahhh, well, just as well I really love my Strat ;+)
