Does anyone know if its easy to take the "SRV" decal off of the Stevie Ray Vaughan Strat? I like the guitar, and the man but I really think its cheesy to have the initials on the pickguard. His signature is on the headstock, but I have no problem with that.

Yep! Buy another blank "decal" (pickguard) and save the original fer when you sell it. Or, just change yer name to something resulting in the SRV initials (acronym'oniously he said).

It's not a decal on the signature model, it's engraved and painted. You's have to get a new pickguard, otherwise you could always apply black paint inside the envgraving to make it unnoticeable.

Deep Blue: you might want to know that the SRV 8-hole pickguard also has a special hole around some of the screw heads. you can look at warmouth's pickguard info to see exactly what i mean.

t-byrd, SRV models weren't exclusive in this regard. Until the mid or late 90's, all Strat models (at least those made in the USA) had countersunk screw holes for the pickups and the switch. I suspect that since SRV's favorite axes were of the original design (with countersinking), Warmoth and others are capitalizing on his name, even though they know full well that this detail applies to all older Strats (again, USA made). Countersunk holes just plain look better, IMO. My own Strat came with flat holes, and I 'corrected' that lack of detail post haste. Cost me nothing for materials, parts or tools, and less than a half-hour of my time. But yeah, I can see Fender saving a whopping big 15 extra seconds during the making of the pickguard, and mayhaps 5¢ worth of cheaper screws on the assembly line. Sheesh! sumgai

It involves lies, Made-up words (lies), Statistics (lies), Half-truth's (lies), One's soul, and . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . the Devil.

I've never known you to be so modest before! ;D

Don't you mean 8 hole?
One can buy a counter sinking bit for about $5.

Don't you mean 8 hole? One can buy a counter sinking bit for about $5. Or if you are really cheap, you can just use a larger drill bit (using just your hand, no drill). Just a note here about counter sinking plastic: Do it by hand or on a drill press set to a very low speed with the depth stop set. It's VERY easy to go too far in and end up with a hole too large for your screw. I typically use a countersink bit in a tap handle to do the job for something as thin as a pickguard (I used to make plexi covers and guards for equipment).
