Carlson SG3Just bought one on Ebay for $65. Anyway I'm planning on replacing the tuners, pups, etc. It's string through bridge, in order to change it to string through body for more sustain, do I have to buy a new bridge? If so, what kind should I get? Does it get more complicated than that? Thanks.

neo, First up, welcome to the GuitarNutz2 forums! No, you needn't buy a new bridge, however....... If you do elect to drill holes in your current bridge, you'll tear up some of the chrome plating at the very edge of each hole. That'll rub on the string as you pull it through, each time you mount up new strings. Worse, it'll eventually flake off, and that flaking will spread out. Even though your hand never gets near the hole(s), trust me, the plating will eventually destroy itelf. A new bridge intended for string-thru-body will have the holes properly plated, which in turn makes all the above problems go away. For the nice price you just paid for this thing, I'd gently suggest that you step up for the full-meal-deal. sumgai

Thanks for the reply. Do you know of any sort of tutorial or diagram of where to drill? I'm going to assess the performance of this thing before putting any effort into it, but I'd probably screw up if I jumped right into the shark tank.
Also what recommended brands of bridges shall I use? Should I just get a regular Fender Tele bridge off Ebay?
Also does the string through body really add so much sustain? I mostly bought this to do a Roy Buchanan sorta thing, but if the benefits are minimal it's not that worth it to me.
