I got the same email. My previous only post before today was in 2005. I tend to read many posts and only post when I think I have something relevant to contribute. And to your post... I don't have any experience with Carvin but they tend to get pretty good reviews (pickups being the weak link among some). You might be interested in the DC400 series. As far as the coil tapping, call them. They are willing to do some modifications that are not listed on their site. It's possible that would be one of them.

If I were in the market right now for a solid body guitar sporting 2 humbuckers, Hamer would most definitely be one of my top 3 choices. I took the online tour of the factory and their quality control was outstanding. Very pleasing to the eye as well. Gibson BEWARE! btw...Welcome twisted...with a name like that youll fit in well here!

No personal experience with Carvin guitars. But!! Two friends have had Carvins.
One, last year, bought one of their Acoustic guitars. Had some minor shipping issues, which they gave him a bunch of free stuff to make up for. The guitar, not made in California, or by Carvin, was still top notch. Played really easily and tone was great.
Unfortunately for him, he doesn't quite understand air conditioning in excess can be bad for acoustic guitars. The neck is starting to bow. I'm gonna try to get up there this weekend and "straighten" him out on adjustments and humidity levels, etc. But other than his daftness, really nice guitar. Good experience with the company, too.
The second guy. Bought an electric about 10 years ago. Not sure which model, but it was an amazing guitar. Dual humbuckers with two little switches as well as the standard three way switch. The tones this guy got out of it were ...EVERYTHING! Really nice. Neck was amazing, too. He kept it for about 5 years, but the weight of it was too much for him, added to that he quit gigging and wanted to go more acoustic. He sold it for just a bit more than what he paid for it. All in all , a good experience and good product.
Hope that helps.

I haven't tried any but the reviews I've read says always good guitars. Jason Becker used to play carvin guitars and he did awesome things. You should check Jackson. For me, the best guitars out there.

The electronics are superior! I used their pickups in a guitar I had back in 1989, a buddy of mine built his guitar from a carvin kit- its dead quiet. There amps are flawless- practically never need service. I'm in the process of getting an SX prices are low and well built at sandiego locaion. No complaints on Carvin-they stand behind products also.

HAd one of their Bolt series, and loved it! The singles were outstanding, and the m22s was a killer hum.
Friend of mine has a SC90, and sold his Paul soon after getting it. That's how much he loves it.
