:)Good Morning fellow G-Nuts. Anybody here have any experience with those little Ibanez GAX/AX series guitars? I know that the AX's have set necks and Mahogany bodies and the GAX's have bolt necks and Agathis (pine derivative) bodies and different tuners but other than that they seem real similar. Ibanez describes these as "inexpensive, affordable guitars that blur the line between beginner and professional guitars". I've got 20 guitars-from $50.00 beaters to $3000.00 prize possesions. I have been really looking around for a project for the summer. I want something super simple and basic but yet can create really resonant clean sounds and still get a nasty bluesy bite when driven just a bit. And I want to do this for under $300.00. (Heck that's one gig I'm doing this weekend.) I'm in this pawnshop and this little transparent red guitar catches my eye in the pawnshop I visit once a month. Finish is really nice and the neck (has kind of a satin finish and rosewood board) feels really nice and straight-no buzzes. Tuners are kind of crappy (wannabe Kluson- looking things) and it actually has a very functional one-piece adjustable bridge. It also has the powersound (bottom-end Ibanez) pickups but they actually sounded really nice on the little Peavey Envoy Transtube I tried it out on in the store) After playing for a little while, I felt that "feels like home feeling" you get right before the G.A.S. sets in. I've got some Grover Tuners here at the house I bought for cheap at a flea market and I'm thinking a Duncan SH2 Jazz at the neck and a JB at the bridge with the solid Agathis body might make a really nice, understated , no-nonsense player. What do you guys think? Would you jump at it for $100.00 or pass on it?

I think that $100 for any project guitar with a decent neck and body is fair. Since you already have the tuners, that's a bonus. If you have 20 guitars now, what's another one? The more the merrier!

Thats the guitar my daughter has I believe. Its has A funny looking G10 on the headstock? If thats the one, I think the neck on it is fantastic. I prefer a beefier plank myself, but I was truely impressed. The pups left a little to be desired, but as we all know...That can be changed!
