I visit the www.musicyo.com website fairly often and for about the last 2 years it has stated for just about every Steinberger "temporarily out of stock". And then it would say "Due Nov 30, 2005". I'd go back 6 months later and it would say "Due May 31, 2006" and so on. The Steinbergers they do have on their website are a lot more expensive than the ones they used to have there. As a matter of fact, I bought one a few years ago for $250. (Great guitar). Those days are gone I guess. I just wish they'd come right out and say something has changed as opposed to continuously posting due dates 6 months in the future.

hmm, i love my steiny. a bit of a pain to set up. it likes to go out of tune when i use the vibrato. i am also familiar with the spirit line(the cheap ones you mentioned), and just like you said they are great guitars. admittedly im not a big fan of the bricks that they call humbuckers..... it makes it hard to do mods.... but at any rate, they dont sound bad thats for sure......

Since the pickups were covered with plastic, I thought it might be possible to disassemble them in order to bring out all four wires but no. Disassembling the pickup means destroying it. I bought some DiMarzio Super III's and put those in the Steinberger. It sounds great.
Steinberger Spirits are a great guitar for a reasonable $250. The only reason I can think for their being eliminated is to make more money with their USA Steinberger line. (About $900 and up)
