I purchased my first LINE-6 about a year or so ago, and have finally got it figured out. The amp is a Flextone III XL with 2-12" Celestion speakers. There are so many different combinations of tone you can get, it is unreal. There are a ton of stored sounds and tones and you can alter these or eliminate the ones you prefer not to have. This amp as eliminated the need for a pedal board, as there is one available for all the different models out there, and new downloads available at the LINE-6 site, www.line6.com. You can go right out of the amp into the mixer and eliminate all michrophones except for the ones used for vocals. There is real power from this amp as well. I was sceptical at first but now I am sold. Totally sold so much that I purchased another, a AX2/212 and it has twice the capabilities as the afore mentioned amp. I can get anything from the twangiest country to the raunchiest destortion and sweep you could ever imagine. Trust me I was a Marshall user in the past and still love them, but LINE-6 has given me a whole new approach to music. Plug into one with your favorite axe at a local music store and see for yourself, that technology has really come a loooong way.

I have a Line 6 Spider II 112 that I bought last year. 12 amp models (although 1 of the "Insane" models is practically useless, so let's say 11 amp models"). I've had it out for a couple of jams - people can't get over the sound. Hell, I can't get over it. No, it's not genuine tube, but it does some pretty impressive stuff. Tones I can easily cop: Steve Vai Joe Satriani Yngwie Malmsteen Brian May (the Vox AC30 model is quite good!) Angus Young Ritchie Blackmore and many others. To be honest, it doesn't do the slightly overdriven Fender sound well, but that's why I have a SansAmp GT2 (HIGHLY recommended...amazing unit!! - SRV in a box...) It's quite versatile, sounds good, is light and easy to transport, and doesn't cost $3000+. The effects are usable if not great, but for the price...it's killer. Wish I had this amp when I first started - it destroys any practice amp I ever used. That being said, I'm looking forward to obtaining a Peavey JSX once funds (and the wife!) permit... over and out, www.shredbaron.com

Isn't the Spider II a legend among poor boys ?? A real cool amp, it is.
Uh, and JA said that SRV's tone is something like "as good as an idiot can get out of a tube amp" .. (I don't have any tube amp(s), anyway, so WT% .. who cares ?)

I'm thinking about getting something Line 6 just to tweak around with. One of the guys on the TDPRI forum has a good Line 6 site with some tips and patches: www.instituteofnoise.com

I have used a Line 6 Spider 212, (the first run, not those newfangled Spider II's), for about 2 years now, I guess. It only has 6 amp models, and less effects than the Spider II's, but I've always found that it suited my needs very well. I now have a tube amp, and I have to say, it can't really come all that close to the sound of a real tube amp, but to an uneducated audience, it sure would do the job just fine. I play mostly classic rock, or hard rock, sometimes a bit of metal, and occasionally some blues type stuff. I have jammed with a few friends in a band type situation for about a year of the 2 that I owned it and it's always had the power I needed out of it. I even used it at a battle of the bands once. It's a nice amp. I'd recomend trying it to people who aren't afraid of non-tube amps. (Although, I have to admit, theres absolutely nothing wrong with liking tubes..)
Also, to whoever mentioned the Peavey JSX...I agree wholeheartedly. That amp looks to be amazing.

If it's "uneducated audience", I'd say that even the cheaper (if not cheapest) modeller Behringer V-Amp will do.
