I stopped in Emerald City Guitars yesterday, which is a vintage guitar shop in downtown Seattle, Pioneer Square, they carry Smokey Amps and I needed one, because i lent my last one out (again). To my surprise, they had a new kind of Smokey amp, with a silver 'Supro' badge on it. Oh no, I thought, Zinky's been bought out, I wonder if the new owners will keep the flame alive? How wrong was I- turns out Bruce Zinky bought the rights to Supro, and this was a new, updated version of the Smokey amp! The guy told me it's got four caps instead of two, and considerably higher gain. Best of all, it 's the same price as the old ones! I had to have it, and I love it- now, dig, I love Smokey Amps to begin with, and that's a whole nother conversation. But the new model definitely brings up the usefulness of the sSmokey by upping the gain. Suddenly there's always plenty of volume, even without breaking up entirely. With a low-output tele pickup you've got enough gain to get the clank- and that was something the old Smokey wasn't quite up to- clink maybe, but not clank- until now. The extra gain really gives you far more room to shape tone. It's not just about being louder, it really sounds that much better. I don't see any mention of the new Smokey on the site, so I guess they're pretty new. check them out, better yet, go buy one sight unseen, go on, they're 30$, and you'll love it.

I have one of the old poycarbonite smokey amps in Safety Orange. I got it about 5 years ago and I don't think they offer that color anymore. Very cool little amp.

I originally wanted a Marlboro cig pack, but I had stopped smoking, and they didn't supply any then. So I thought the orange would be somewhat unique.
