Here's a little secret to my not yet famous signature sound. I play a lot of crushingly heavy music and it seemed like no matter what kind of 4x12 cab I tried the speakers would crap out and distort once I hit a certain volume level resulting in my palm mutes sounding like something resembling a wet fart and my chords sounding like someone urinating on a piece of construction paper. I finally got fed up with "guitar speakers" in general and purchased a set of four 12" PA loudspeakers rated at 250 watts RMS a piece and installed them in my 4x12 cab. The result was a roaring 1000 watt beast of a guitar cabinet capable of head stomping metal mayhem at any volume! Not only does the cabinet have crushing lows, but it also has excellent singing highs that don't hurt your ears like squawking midrange "guitar speakers" can. If you want a blues or classic rock sound dependent on the natural distorting of the guitar speakers, DO NOT do this. However, if you want smooth bassy jazz or rip roaring metal, I HIGHLY recommend it.

Cool idea. FWIW, Zakk Wylde uses 200 watt EV's in his Marshall cabs. His tone is amazing.

Don'tcha hate it when you have a new, revolutionary and amazing idea, only to find out some big-name's been doing it for years? Happens to me a lot. But agreed. I run my modeler into a bass amp to get the chunk I need from my 7-string.

.. seems like you metal guys really need big powers for tone, huh ? (in the contrary of what JA says about small amps) .. pretty interesting ..
but hey, "singing highs" ? I think I'm gonna do that someday.
