Hello,
I'm contemplating selling my Laney LC-50II. It's just too big, heavy and more than I need. I love the all tube sound.
I asked for suggestions in my local music store. after telling them I play blues/rock with light overdrive mostly and they suggested the Carvin Vintage 16 they had there. I loved the sound but I've heard lots of negative remarks about Carvin so I'm nervous to take the plunge.
The switch to 5 watt mode really caught my attention. The fact that it only had one channel didn't really bother me. I think I will have a stomp box for heavier distortion anyway.
I'm wondering if any of you have experience with this amp, or know of one in a similar price range that might work well for a blues/rock guitarist who often plays in his apartment with thin walls?
Thanks in advance. Waylan

i for one, have had nothing but positive experiences with carvin equipment. great value per dollar in their amps. that said, don't sell your Laney till you've worked with the Carvin for a while.
the 5watt mode won't do much for you in your apartment, it'll still be WAY too loud when you get the power amp chimin'. in a small club, though, it would be just the ticket.
consider a power sink and/or headphones.
best solution: move to a house out in the sticks and crank it up! -- ya can't get the neighbors P.O.ed if ya aint got no neighbors!

I had a Carvin Bel Air, the Vintage 16s bigger cousin, and it was a great amp. Never had a problem from it, and it sounded great. I wouldn;t hessitate to take the plundge, they make excellent products at great prices.
If you checkout the forum on the Carvin website, you'll find ALOT of happy customers and alot of helpful info about that amp.
Another EL84 tube amp, with a power switch, that you might wanna take a look at is the Reverned Goblin 15/5. Sweet sounding little tube amp with alot of usuable sounds in it. Unfortunatly Reverend stopped making amps about a month about, to focus on their guitars, and have since sold out of all of their stock of amps, sold getting one used is the only option. But I assume used isn;t a problem for you, if you are getting a Carvin, unless you live near the Carvin factory store...

Over the years I have used Marshall, Peavey, Traynor, and Crate amps. For my money and my ear, you cant beat a Marshall. I now have a Marshall combo with a headphone jack for those moments when my inspiration need to be a little quiet....ummm say 3am.

I just purchased a carvin MTS. The MTS series sounds really clean and has a hot overdrive. Negative remarks about Carvin? Theyre Guitars and amps are top quality, IMO.

Top quality, I must admit, yes. but their character, nah. I don't like Carvins' character. (of course, a big time Vai fan normally won't say that, but incidentally, I'm a Vai fan. )
