I'm looking at getting the smaller "90" model, on the premise of a pristine, beautifully clear neutral clean that I can use to sculpt my sound. Am I looking in the right place?

had a friend back in the early '80s that had a Jazz Chorus (JC-60?) for clean and a Marshall for the mean.
JC was the ultimate in sweet. and the chorus was nice, nice, nice!

I handle my mean with stomp boxes for now, so I just need something that -really- delivers in the clean department. The dual amp really intrigues me... and every song I've heard recorded with one makes me pretty anxious to plug into one myself. I can't seem to find anyone who carries them though!

my girlfriends dad has got one (or one very similar, i don't remember the exact model) its a 212, but it sounds real nice. i've only played through it with my old tele and haven't tried it with the sg yet but it was one great sounding amp.

I had hopes of maybe a JC being an effective driver for my modeler. However, I have not had much success in the transiters and programing of the modeler playing well with the transitors of solid state amps.
I have a Fender Twin brain that warms up the modeler nicely especially when I start chugging it loud. But it gets LOUD, and I want a SS amp that will give a warm clean overhead compatible with, even enhansing, the modeler patches, at lower volumes.
Anyone had experience with the JC and modelers?

A few Jazz cats had these when I had a Peavey Heritage (power tubes, SS pre) and my pal a Fender twin. Despite no tubes, the JC beat both in the "sweet clean" dept, IMO. It's usually the model I choose on my modelers for cleans, too.

RH, If I were 30 years younger, meaning if my back was still good and strong, I'd be more than happy to cart around a JC-90 or -120. As already mentioned, they're cleaner than any Fender, and highly useful for a modeler. (In fact, Roland built the VGA-x series of amps with modeling built in, based on the JC series.) In your case, since you are already going to shlep a bunch of stompboxes anyway, then the JC-90 will probably do the trick. Particularly if you can get it for less than the average bear. sumgai
