hello. i have borrowed a Vox amp from a mate with a view to buying it off him. I don't know much about it so i wondered if any of you lot can shed some light. It has 'Escort lead' on the bottom right hand front corner and 'lead 50' on the to near the contols. Is it any good? how much is it worth? Is it tube or solid state? Any help would be greatly received. Ta

Harmony Central is the first place I go to read user reviews on guitars, amps, effects, and pickups. It's not the only place to find reviews, and sometimes you may find everything from "it sucks!" to "I love it!" for the same item, but you can usually get a good "feel" about something by careful reading. Under Vox Escort, there were only four reviews between 05/2001 and 04/2005, and the last two were from the same writer. (He rebuilt his.) Sound quality was rated 10 in all cases, including this: "Sounds fantastic, for a little bitty 2.5 watt transistor amp." Only two listed the price they paid for theirs, US$150 (used) and £25. (I ain't doin' the math on that for ya, but I will say 150 bucks for a mini-amp seems kinda steep. Average overall rating was 9.5, though.) www.harmony-central.com/Guitar/Data/Vox/Escort-1.html

You're welcome. Made a decision on buying it yet?

not sure. I dont know how much we wants for it. I am also thinking of getting an orange crush amp. i dont want anything too fancy because my new hobby is going to be making effects pedals and hopefully i can make some crazy sounds.
