I was just wondering....This happened to me about 7 or 8 years ago I think. I was practicing on my guitar through my rack system (ada preamp, digitech effects processor, peavey poweramp) and all of a sudden heard what sounded like cb radio talk comming through my speakers. The first thing I heard come through was, "Shut the f*@$k up!" Anyone else heard of this happening?

Yeah, sometimes it could be a commercial radio station, other times somebody transmitting on a two-way. A friend of mine was playing one night at a restaurant where we used to hang out, and suddenly we heard what sounded like one of the public works trucks over his speakers. It was mercifully brief, since they were going past while doing snow removal, but it was a good reminder of how stray RF can creep in where it's not wanted. Lots of potential "antennas" in a guitar rig, starting with the pickups.
At least you weren't in public when it happened to you. Depending on the venue, you might've had some big guy standing there saying "Hey! You talkin' to me?"

as long as it doesn't happen when you play "sex farm" on an airforce base... ;D ROFL that sort of interference is more likely (but not limited to) in cases where you are using lots of gain and distortion.

It hasn't happened since then. I was using lots of distortion and I think I had chorus put I was in an old mobile home. I think I could pick up like 5 or 6 people talking at the time.

Most likely culprit: the various cords connecting your equipment together. One bad cable is all it takes. Generally speaking, the source does have to be pretty close, but once in a great while it might be a commercial radio station that is on a hill several miles away. In those cases, it's quite possible that your amp or one of your stompboxes will need additional shielding, if a new cord doesn't fix the problem. sumgai
