Hello all, Ive been using my dad's fender hotrod deluxe 410 (realy REALY nice of him to let me take it to gigs) And i'm looking to stop leaching off him. (The amp is his favorite) I found this www.harmony-central.com/Guitar/Data/Traynor/YCV80Q_410_Combo-01.html has anyone had any experience with traynor amplifiers? they are canadian made I believe, and have a 2 year guarranty (even if YOU break it) also are they on the cheap side money wise? thank you all.

I work at Zoot Music in NSW, Australia and we sell Traynor amps. I have heard them and they do sound great, especially through the extension cab! Here is a link to one. It is the YC40 All Valve and it retails at $1499au. I guess only time will tell if they become as popular as the Marshalls and other valve amps. Cheers Shane

And just where is happyguy located? I have a buddy who is thinking of unloading his HRD in a week or two. If you're in the USA, I'll hook up the two of you. EditMy pal just off-loaded this unit last night, so sorry to announce that the offer is now null and void. /editsumgai

I'm just going to throw this out there. Peavey Classic 50 410. Sounded much better than the HRD, especially on the dirty channel. Soooo smooth. IMHO, of course.
I've been trying to stop myself from "acquiring" one from eBay for under $400.

Being from Canada, one of my first big amps was a Traynor. I had no problems with it. I cant remember the model...it was a looong time ago! ( 1978 ) Alot of guys I knew at the time used Traynor.

The only concern with the Traynor is getting to the tubes if their is a problem or you just want to change them ,otherwise the are good.....

Are you looking for a big amp with tubes, or an amp with big tubes? ;D Check out the Carvin V3 (Mesa, eat yer heart out). Head is ~$1,000, combo is $1,400'ish. Check out the Mesa Roadster (Carvin, eat yer heart out). Prolly 'bout $2,000. Used on both is about 2/3 street. Peavey has some decent, under-appreciated tube amps.

Fer some decent tube amp sounds, the VOX AD30/50/100VT series ain't bad. They're about $220/$330/$500. I have the 50 and it gives full plate distortion from 50 watts down to about 150 mWatts (it has a tube output stage with current mirrors).

My vote would be for the B-52 AT100 tri-mode rectifier. 100W tube amplifier head with option to operate in SS or hybrid. Killer value. OD channel w/ 2 gain knobs, independant mster volume. 3-band EQ. contour control clean chan w/ master volume, 3-band EQ, treble boost global volume, resonance, and reverb control 4-switch footswitch for channel, gain, reverb, and FX loop selectable operational mode: class A tube class AB1 (I suspect a hybrid pre/power mix of solid state and tube) class AB solid state tube operation is pure tube signal. 4 12AX7 preamp stage 12AX7 reverb 12AX7 phase inverter 12AX7 effects loop 5AR4 rectifier 4 6L6 series or 5881 power stage Easy, non-rare tubes Of course, you can also run it in hybrid or solid state mode if a tube craps out. 9.4 sound rating on Harmony Central with 50 reviews, 9.5 overall rating reviews.harmony-central.com/reviews/Guitar+Amp/product/B-52+Pro+Audio/AT-100+Tri-mode+Rectifier+Head/10/1$700 new $350-500 used on ebay

My money's (literally) on something different.. a Laney GH100L. If you're going for a Marshall single channel style amp, buy the Laney instead. It has the best honest, true natural distortion i've ever heard plugging straight into an amp, is louder than the majority of any amps i've ever heard, is cheap, very dynamic and present.... simple to use....
Listen to Paul Gilbert's "Get out of my Yard" album, sounds exactly like it (he owns one and rarely uses dist. pedals), also sounds similar to early ACDC albums...
Only channel switching it has though is a 'drive' switch where it turns on another tube for extra gain...
