I just have a simple question. What speakers would any of you recommend for a blues/metal guitar player? I play everything from hendrix to megadeth to BB king. I just need to build a cab for my Peavey 260. I was thinking of some carvin 12" speakers. I've heard alot of good stuff about them.

Thanks! I only looked at the Patriot/Redcoat configuration. Ive always heard about the Redcoat and Patriot lines but now that I know what they sound like and are good for I think I have made my decision.

Well I just had my 50's era Jensen 12" special designs re coned/coiled. Blown ones can be had on ebay pretty cheap, and having them redone (in Chicago anyways) is about $60 each. The sound for Blues (IMO) can't be beat. I don't know if anyone else even ever made a 12" speaker with a 4" voice coil.
When I dropped them off for repair (J&J in Chicago), I asked if they needed a deposit for the work to be done, their only comment was: "If you don't pick them up, I'll make a lot more on them than what I'll be charging you". He also mentioned something about them being worth their weight in gold. The had been water damaged a few years back.....it's REALLY good to have them back.

Those are a bit out of my price range. I'm thinking of speakers less than $75.
Also for some reason repair shops in my town have unusually high prices. I dont know why. They explain everything to me like its complicated but its mostly stuff I could do. Reconing... I'm not sure about but I know everyone is gonna try to rip me off.

I understand about the 4" coil but I was just saying that I have a harsh budget. Im still thinking heavily on those Eminence speakers. A Swamp Thang/Man-O-War configuration sounds pretty good too me. Anyone have any grudges against Eminence or their Patriot/Redcoat lines that I should know about?
