I have an SWR LA10. Its a solid state amp that puts out 35 watts. On Jameco Electronics I have seen powersupplies advertised that put out anywhere from 10 to 350 watts. I want to know if it is possible for me to remove the 35 watt power supply and insert a 200 or 250 watt powersupply and use it as a head, as opposed to a combo like it is now?

well... that was a simple answer. its a flat out no. I checked inside and my amp is a preamp module then there is a seperate supply. I know that SWR uses the same module on all of their LA series amps. Still a no?

Absolutely, but it will still just put out 35 Watts. Ya can use a bigger water tank, but if'n ya don't upgrade the spigot.....
A bigger power supply will supply more power, but if you use one with higher output voltages, your amp will prematurely "go to be with Jesus." Your amp will in essence, become a fuse for the new power supply.
Power supplies supply converted power. Amplifier circuits deliver music signal-based higher output power. Amps generate heat which must be dealt with.
If it was just a matter of the size of the power supply, all amps would have a power supply of arbitrary size and a common "cosmic dewobbulator" module.
The short, safe answer is NO. This WILL leave a mark somewhere.....
The long answer is possibly (and I charge $125/hr for short-term engineering "possibly" services).
Go buy the Crate PowerBlock for $100 at MF/GC. It probably won't leave a mark.

Unk, a simple no to me means dont hurt yourself doing it. I'm sure it will leave a mark if I had..
Thanks for not letting me destroy my amp!
