I'm in the process of planning a 4x12 cab, using some eminence speakers. - 2 Wizard, and 2 Governors. ( www.eminence.com/pdf/tone_guide.pdf ). The eminence page above recommends that the Wizard be in a closed back, but the Governor can be either open or closed. I have a friend who recommended that I build a half closed/half open cab, giving the low end punch of a closed back, but still keeping the open back highs in the mix as well. Does anyone have any suggestions as to the configuration of this cab? Here's what I was thinking - a 4x12 cab, top half closed back with the 2 Wizard speakers (as they have a bit more low end). The bottom half open backed with the 2 Governor speakers. (these on the bottom because it will be more convenient to mic them here, and they are probably the speakers I would want miced). I know that many people, when they combine different speaker types in one cab, will put them in an X pattern to maximize the blend of the speaker types. But in the case of an open/closed back cab, I'm not sure this would be practical. Does anyone have any pros or cons they'd like to bring to my attention with this configuration? Thanks.

the road king cab is interesting - similar to what was suggested to me, except by putting the open/closed back vertical instead of horizontal, you have the option of micing either the open or the closed back. thanks chris.
