Hello people, this is my first post here, I dont know if I'm in the right place but here goes. I have a home studio and am recording a few original songs with a bass player and drummer. The song I am working on now is in B and I play B power chord alot. I am getting a reverberation sound only when I play the B. It very annoying and is loud enough that even during mixdown I cant get all of it out. Let me back up. I play a 72 strat and a 90s tele thinline, my amp of choice is a Mesa Boogie S.O.B. I use a Shure Sm57 and go direct into Pro Tools 002 rack. I have tried 2 other amps and 3 guitars and am getting the same sound. I can go direct into Pro Tools and use Amplitube or something but it just dont sound as good. Any thoughts?

hi Natas,
welcome to GuitarNuts2.
there is no place that this question fits into perfectly.
so i guess this place, or the coffee shop would be reasonable choices.
the resonance you hear could have quite a few possible causes.
first i'd turn off anything that is used for vocals (or any mic.), and has a monitor in the room.
then see if the resonance in B goes away.
next, i'd cover ALL the drums with heavy blankets to prevent the heads from ringing.
did the resonance go away?
if so, your drummer could change the tuning on the offending drum.
if that isn't the problem, the next thing to try would be to remove (or cover with heavy blankets) all the speaker cabinets in the room.
still no good?
perhaps there are air ducts, windows or panels in your room that are resonating.
or perhaps the room itself is tuned to B.
a perfect cube resonates strongly.
a box that has sides that are exact multiples of the dimensions of other sides, will also resonate strongly.
by putting up a few dividers like they use in office cubicles, in strategic locations, you might be able to tame the resonance, if it is caused by the size/shape of the room.
or you might have to find a different room.

thanks for the responce. The walls of the studio is covered in aurolex. The drums are Roland V-Drums. However now that I think about it the vocal mic was on while we were tracking so I am gonna check that out tonight. I should have thought of that. Thanks Unklmikey.
