I checked out a (pre-owned) PJ today that the owner was selling due to a recent louder amp purchase.
I noticed a hum/hiss that quieted a bit when I switched to my Humbucking bridge pup, but the single coils were pretty noisy through it.
Any idea what would cause this ? Also, is the mfg date located anywhere inside the amp ?
Thanks in advance.

Does it have a 2 prong plug? Cause mine sure did... Lack of ground = noise city... and not in a good way.

I've had a Pro Jr for a few years and it has always been noisy, regardless of pickups used. Check out any online Fender amp forums and I think you'll see it's fairly common. It's just a trait of the PJ. Have heard some people say that it's a manufacturing defect caused by the screws in the back plate being too long and that if you unscrew one of them halway out the hum will go away. Tried it and it did nothing. (Gotta love those amp urban legends.) The PJ is one LOUD little amp, and a well-liked/loved recording amp, but it IS noisy. (IMHO, anyway.) And in reference to ranchtooth's question, my PJ has a three-pronged plug. Hope that helps.
