Guys... Would you describe Orange amplifiers as being the same, more or less then a Marshall?....sound wise.

ChrisK... You really love Line6 dont you? I have their Verbzilla reverb pedal and its great, so I dont see why their amps would anything but the same. I will check one out and get back to you. I do want/need another amp. I have just placed an order for a Leslie G37 rotary speaker. Its made for us guitar players. Much lighter then the old church Leslies, but as I see it, I still need one more to make the setup complete.

While deciding on the Epi, I was using an Orange Tiny Terror for a while. Clean channel was ultra quiet, but not quite as "warm" as a Fender. Dirty channel could easily dial into Marshall territory and beyond with little effort. Very little knob adjustment=drastic change in sound (though it is not overly sensitive). What scared me was the price ($550). Other than that it was very simple and robust.

I don't know Orange amps inside out, but as an addition to a Marshall I would suggest that you would be getting a bit more of the same thing really. There will be tonal differences (of course), but the two brands are in a fairly similar tone area, i.e. 'British' rock overdrive. The Orange stuff is roughly not quite so scathingly bright as the Marshall amps and a little cleaner across the board in my limited experience, but if you were looking for an amp to nicely offset a Marshall I would think something a little more Fender-ish might provide more contrast. In particular, the clean and 'just going' tones I have had from Fenders have made them invaluable to myself, just as have Marshall or suchlike for full-on overdrive.
Of course the proof is in the pudding, and if, being a Marshall man, the Fender doesn't feel right when you get the chance to play one, then perhaps the Orange is a better alternative. And if you are looking at an all valve model (from what I remember from a photo elsewhere you have a valvestate type amp???) then the improvement in tone, if not a million miles away, could just take things to the next level.

Thanks guys for the input... Oranges, Rockerverb50 with a 2/12 or a 4/12 cabinet would be sweet. There stuff is very pricey though I must say
andy...My Marshall is the AVT2000 style. Much better then the old hybrid style Marshall....Try one, ill bet you cant tell the diff? and I dont have to drop hundreds a year on tubes...sorry valves. I change the 12AX7 once a year and im good to go....

I've been using a AVT myself just recently, for splitting a bass signal rather than for guitar, but I'm not neccessarily a valve(... sorry, tube!) snob. The main point really was that in my experience, the Orange may not be a huge departure in tone, but might be the variation or improvement you were looking for!
