I have a vintage silver face twin. I don't know much about guitar wiring, let alone amp wirings. Does anyone know whether this amp would have a tube or solid state rectifier? I'm just trying to figure out what the sound difference is. I have an American Hotrod Deluxe and I know it's a solid state rectifier. I found a mod to do to the hotrod that will simulate a tube rectifier and I would like to hear one before i start adding anything to my amp. Maybe I should add a link to the mod. Just a moment, I need to open another window. Ok, here's the link. studentweb.eku.edu/justin_holton/sag.htmlThis mod, I believe, is for the newer, Mexican made, hotrod deluxe. I don't believe there is any difference in circuitry with the two so it should work, I suppose.

bean, I've been through a goodly number of FTR's over the last 45 years, and I'm here to tell you, the resistor mod espoused by Justin Holton is merely a repeat of what we call an urban legend. IOW, it doesn't work as advertised. If you truly have to have some sort of sag, or an imitation thereof, may I suggest that you do two things: first, search this forum for "sag", we've covered it in detail, a time or two. Go back at least a year, but probably more like a year and a half. Next, google for "sag "guitar amp"", and see what you get. When your head's had enough of the conflicting stories, come back here, and we'll set you straight. In summary: JH's mod is non-destructive, and non-operative. (Unless you count the time wasted...... ) HTH sumgai
