Please welcome the addition of a new forum! The first forum in the Boards category is now "Reference Articles". (Everything else remains in the same order.) I've taken the liberty of moving "The LINKS Page" from the Coffee Shop into this new forum. I think it will serve us nicely as a starter topic, and as a template for upcoming articles intended to be useful for both beginners and experienced members. Comments? Suggestions for other changes? (johan, I still have your list, but don't hesitate, if you've got more to add. ) sumgai

I've noticed there is no place for string-related questions. As the ad says-now take the strings off and play it. I'm curious as to the choices of coated strings in particular. gp

gp, Either the Coffee Shop or Theory and Technique would be appropriate for that kind of topic. The same or similar threads have also shown up in Lutherie and Repair and Guitars. I personally don't see a need for a separate Forum for strings, but if there's enough clamor........ sumgai

sumgai I'd suggest Lutherie. We have tuner and bridges there, why not strings? The Coffee Shop should be reserved for the really important issues. ...like what kind of earplugs are best when your wife or girlfriend finds out you bought another guitar, instead of more jewelry for her.

thanks guys. I should post when I'm actually awake. tuners, nuts & bridges are strings' best friends.

Is there a place somewhere with a key to all the various symbols around the forum.... like the meanings of the different styles of file folders beside listed topics, for instance (like when they're faded or on fire or whatever?)
Or would that be somewhere on a Proboards page, not forum-specific?

BAY, Sorry, but I'd have to say no, there isn't such a "legend", at least not that I know of. Admins (newey and I) have a page where we can modify (meaning, replace with our own) icons, so we know what they mean, but the general membership? Apparently the ProBoards staff is assuming that everyone on the innerwebs just knows what all those little doodads mean...... Fire = hot topic (yeah, like I couldn't determine that by looking at the number of replies....) Padlock = no more posting, but you can still read it. Red thing that's supposed to look like a pin or sumpin' = Important enough to be pinned to the top of the index, so that all and sundry can find it quickly. There are several message icons that you can assign to your individual post, no matter if you are starting a topic or replying to one. An example would be that I chose "lamp" for this reply to you. (I'd tend to think that this is supposed to mean that the post sheds light on something for the reader.) Other than that, Ida Noe. If you run across something that doesn't fall into what I've just mentioned, ask..... I'll see what I can come up with (or newey will, if he sees it first). HTH sumgai
