Ibanez makes the WD-7. I can't speak much for it's sound since I haven't sampled a lot of wahs, but it's -very- versatile, there are lots of tweakables on it.

No, but the action of the foot pedal, the Q, the high range, a constant bass level, and a low-end switch (for Bass or 7-string wah) are all features, with many more.

i gotta say, i bought a 70s chrome morley wah/volume as my 1st wah and haven't really seen or heard anything that i'd want to replace it with. it was made to be used with guitar, keys, and bass, so it has a HUGE range. that makes it nice w/ guitar cuz going from heel to middle position you can get a wah/volume swell. PLUS there's quite a bit of travel on the pedal. i never liked voxes and crybabies--or even newer morleys--cuz you barely move yr foot and you've gone from heel to toe. that's good for rhythm i guess but i mostly do slow-mo-wah. plus, for some reason, prices have stayed reasonable on these--despite the vintage fx craze.

I use the boss wah with the COSM modelling, and I have really enjoyed it. It's got 8 different kinds of wah, including a voice, which wouldn't realistically fool anyone, but it is a neat effect nonetheless, and a uni-vibe sound which is really neat. On top of all of that it has 8 different kinds of built in distortions, and it has the ability to let you custom tune in your own wah. I'm actually selling it now, because as I was cleaning up one day, I realised that I hadn't plugged it in to play for over 8 months, simply because I wasn't playing any music that used it, but it's a great sounding pedal and someone should be using it.

Beware the selling of the gear! I find myself wishing I still had (almost) every piece of equipment I've ever pawned off or given away at some point or another.

Well, I agree, I'll probably regret it later, but for now, there's the issue of G.A.S. which seems to strike at least once every year. And as a result, I have neither the funding, nor the space for this years outburst. So, kill two birds with one stone - sell things that take up space... But it really is a great wah. It's a bit complicated to program, that'd be my only complaint, (as far as I remember) But it always sounded good once you got it all fiddled with. A buddy of mine who I used to play in a band with has a Jim Dunlop Crybaby, and he gets some killer sounds out of it. I've played around with it a bit too, and I have to say it also sounds great, and you can find those things cheap if you look around. No tweakables at all, but I geuss you just don't need them.

actually "killer sounds" doesn't depend in a particular point in your effects lineup, but overall In your own setup, some other brand(s) could probably fit better than a Crybaby .. hint : "try before buy" ;D

Personally, yeah, I always shop around before I buy something, but since it is a thread about wah pedals, I thought I might mention it...

I had Robert Keeley Electronics do "Mello" mods on my Dunlop JH-1. It's pretty slick. As an aside, I read recently that the "jaw harp" effect after the choruses in The Band's "Up On Cripple Creek" was done by a clavinet played through a wah. I think up to that point, I had thought of a wah as strictly a guitar effect. It's good to learn new things every day. -- Doug C.

I use the ol' tried and true Crybaby. Its plain, ugly as sin, but its never let me down after all of these years. I play a mean "Theme from Shaft" *grin*

I have always used a Crybaby that I bought in 1989 until recently. A friend gave me a Morley Distortion/wah/volume 3 in 1 pedal and the distortion wasn't working. Also, the switch that operated the distortion was cutting the signal in and out so I bypassed the distortion switch so just the wah works. I use it all the time now, although it doesn't work well on higher frequencies from about the 12th fret on the "b" string and up.

I really wanna try out the Cry baby 535Q "the swiss army knife of the crybabies" as dunlop say.
but i do use a Weeping Demon and i LOVE it! Sooo sooo fun, auto wah turn on and manual bypass. soo many options. You can get this amazing funny Range by flicking it to "Low" mode, and bump the fine tuning to full on, starting range at the lowest and peak at highest.
It has the really Fat low grunt then like some sort of barking biting sound as you stamp down on it. Great fun!

Well, I'm GASing for a wah to mess around with. Any suggestions for a cheap(er) wah that will do well with my 5150's gain and still sound good clean?

Well, I'm GASing for a wah to mess around with. Any suggestions for a cheap(er) wah that will do well with my 5150's gain and still sound good clean? The Behringer "Hell Babe" wah pedal is only $30. Features an optical control (no mechanical switch to wear out), spring-back pedal (with option to remove), adjustable frequency range, filter tuning and fine adjusting, etc. Hard to beat for the price...

optical wahs are usually lousy, although I never know whether the WD7 is an optical or not, but it surely is tough and versatile.
For an addition, Behringer are known well for their "sterile" sound and lack of durability. Some units are exceptions, of course, like a few of their stompboxes and V-amp(ire). Although, Roland CUBE series and Boss multieffects are a lot better. Still, it doesn't change the fact that most Behringer units broke down in less than 1 year.
(and it is another fact that I have a Behringer compressor stompbox (cs100) that still runs)

I ended up getting a Vox V-847. I like it. My plans are to mod it to true-bypass using a 3PDT switch and add a power indicator LED. The parts are in the mail.

I took a gamble when it came to buying a wah, because that day I was kinda in a hurry, but still wanted to buy a wah, so after reviews on musiciansfriend, I went with the Ibanez WD7, yes this thing really rocks!!!
I took a gamble because I read in my guitar world that the zakk wylde signature wah was pretty good because its pretty sharp I hear, well its good for metal I hear, I haven't tried it yet.
But yeah I'd recommend the wd7, its only $100 and believe me with all the setting it offers, its worth it, I LOVE THIS WAH PEDAL!!!!

Use any wah you like but DO NOT BUY PROEL!! They are cheap crap!, I bought one and when i pulled out the jack the inside electronics came out through the output socket!!, I went back to the shop and he gave me a new one. This i was playing when the lever got broken i went back AGAIN and this time he fixed it.
End result: All the pedal does is when it is Up it leaves the volume high and adds treble. And when it is down it lowers the volume and puts down the tone.
