I need a little help with an acoustic that has a piezo strip under the bridge. It always sounds a little brittle and tinny. I have an old DOD acoustic processor, but it really doesn't clean it up as much as I would like. Any suggestions for an inexpensive (but not cheap) pedal or effects unit that could give me a better sound?
Thanks in advance Carl

cisco, An EQ isn't gonna do it, sorry to say. We get this question quite often over in the MIDIguitar group (on Yahoo), so I can say with some confidence that what you're looking for is a full-fledged tube pre-amp (or processor, if you wanna call it that). Sadly, those don't come cheap, inexpensive, or affordable by mere mortals. For this, eBay and craigslist are your best friends. Currently eBay has about 57 such devices up for grabs, and at least 8 of them are under a hunnert bucks - something there outta be of interest to you, and possibly useful too. (I used the search terms "tube preamp guitar".) HTH sumgai

Thanks, guys.
I've tried the EQ (my DOD processor has one) and it does help a lot, but I guess I'm looking for the holy grail. You know: tone, tone, tone! I've been thinking about a tube pre-amp for my vocal mics, so maybe I should try it out on the guitar, too.
Thanks for the quick replies. Looks like it's time for a trip to the store with my acoustic to harass the clerks. Fortunately there's a GC about 3 miles from home, and lots of pretty good guitar shops in the Kansas City area.
It's not a high priority item for me right now (I'll limp along with the DOD) but when I decide on something, I'll let you know how it worked out.

OK Sumgai, here's what I found: An ART Tube MP Project Series pre-amp. $65 at the local MF, and it cleans up the sound a lot. It's a pretty solid feeling little gadget, and simple to use. I read all the reviews of it on line at MF before I headed over there, and most of them were good. I haven't tried it with a vocal mic yet (what it was supposedly made for), but if I like the sound I'll have to go back and get another one.
Thanks for the advice.

Carl,
I refrained from mentioning any names (probably 'cause I couldn't remember any!), but ART comes up a lot, almost always positive. Have no fear, you're gonna love this little toy!
