I'm recording some music that was written a long time ago and I'm using the original setup which involved a shredmaster for distortion duties. The pedal I currently own, AFAIR is the same one that was used back in the day (about 14 years ago) and I'm finding that it's not sounding as crisp as it used to. It hasn't been used much since that period, so I wondering whether or not the sorts of components used are likely to degrade over time? I know next to nothing about electronics. Is it common to replace individual components in pedals like this? Are there professionals who service pedals, i.e. perform tests to check which components need replacing? I'm not sure If I should just buy another second hand and hope that it sounds better than the one I have?

I don't know too much about electronics either, and I don't want to cause unneccessary concern- but over give or take 14 years of loud music I've noticed that nothing sounds quite as crisp as it used to! It also depends on what you are comparing the current setup to- your memory of how it sounded, or the recorded version, which is never quite the same as the rig itself if the room...

;D
I'm talking about recordings & recreating the recorded sound I had before. The room will be playing a part but I'm sure the pedal is the major issue.
