hi Paul,
welcome to Guitarnuts2
thats an interesting looking guitar.
i think see influences of Gibson and Dano, as well as Ric, and maybe Hofner
the format you used to post the image links to a larger one, if the thumbnail you posted is clicked on.
that's pretty slick, but, you should probably note that, as it's not commonly done that way here.
lots of us would just scratch our heads and think, why did he post such a small picture?
most of us would have used the simpler format like this, that would take you directly to the full picture.

cheers,

unk,
You certainly are observant . . . and knowledgeable. The influences are definitely Gibson (ES 135) and Ric with the pickups like the old Gretschs. As for the picture link. I am brand new at this. Could you walk me through how to do that? I went to the photobucket.com site as suggested by another member and tried to practice the HTML stuff, but it just wasn't clear to me. Can you help? Paul

Bob,
Sorry about not replying to your posts, but as I was telling Unk, for some unknown reason I could not pull up any messages nor could I reply to any post. I was on a different computer than I am now and it would not bring up the task bar with 'member' and other necessary things that allow you to get onboard. And there was no 'messages' notification up there either. I don't know what the problem is. Do you have any idea?
At any rate, the 'Cool Blue Guitar', is a creation of my mine and my son-in-law. He is an extremely gifted guitar player and a guitar afficionado as well. It has always been his dream to make his own guitar. Well . . . I am a long time woodworker and tinkerer, so I had the know-how (at least in the fabrication and all, but not the electrical side, which I am scratching my head over).
This is not the first guitar but about the third. The first one is the same design, only with a natural maple body and flame maple pickguard (black p-90 pickups, Bigsby tremolo & c.). It turned out great and plays great. I shielded the inside of that body cavity without really knowing what I was doing, and it has very little hum or noise. This blue one is driving me crazy with some ground problem.
The design of the 'Cool Blue' is (as Unk guessed) a cross between an old ES 135 Gibson, a Gretsch, Rickenbacker and our own design. The pickguard was totally his design. We are finishing them naturally and in retro colors like this 'Robin Egg Blue' one. We also made a downsized body and are getting ready to paint it '58 Cadillac PINK!'
We're having fun. If I can get these things quiet (no hum or ground noise) we are going to sell a few.
Sorry to ramble . . . you only asked for a brief history, right? Talk to you again, Paul

Mmmmm........ Looks nice.
Reminded me of the body shape of the Bigsby and Travis 'Solid Body' circa. 1947. Different headstock though.(Couldn't find web piccies, will try to scan one in)

Phew, got it done...... www.javea24hrs.com/guitar/Nice guitar, Paulem55! I think I would paint the face of the headstock to match the body, but that's just me.

Hey lunalta. Thanks for the compliment on the blue guitar. That old Merle Travis Bigsby is exactly what we thought it looked like when we finished. We have one with a natural maple finish that really looks similar. There aren't many people out there who would have thought about that ole' Bigsby guitar. Yes, we thought about painting the headstock and may yet do it on another combo. But we haven't got our truss rod cover made up yet nor the logo. We are going to make several other vintage colors, and have a smaller body style as well I just found an old picture of the natural one when being made. Here it is. See ya, Paul ;D

i thought to mention that, because i replied to a message from SUM one (hint, hint). the reply has been sitting in his inbox for an hour, because he forgets to look at the top of his screen to see if he has messages.
sum one would actually have to be online and logged in here in order to ascertain that his Inbox has sum fresh droppings to be sum-marily disposed of. However, sum one is also currently engaged in sum Honey-Do damage control, sum thing that I'm certain most of us know about, only too well. And here I thought that logging in more than 4 times a day was excessive. Now I gotta do it every hour? That'll set sum kind of record! ;D And no, I don't forget to look up at the top, first thing, for a reminder. sum one gave me sum kind of beating, sum time ago, about sum topic like that there. That about...... (wait for it) ....... sums it up! sumgai
