Here's a shot of my latest build, nearing completion - a fanned fret 5-string bass. I wanted an E to C 5-string where the extra string was on the treble side. The theory behind the fret fanning is well documented on the Novax website, and interesting reading. The bass string is 34.5" scale and the treble string is 32.5". The bass is a 2-piece Sapele body, 2-piece 5-bolt maple neck and ebony fingerboard. Body and neck are Tru-Oil and wax finished. It has a MM-clone HB pickup in the neck position and a jazz-bass clone pickup in the bridge. There's an onboard 3-band preamp to give master volume, treble, mid and bass cut/boost, running off 9v. I've added a little red LED to shine when the jack is plugged in (Neutrik locking jack recessed in the Dingwall fashion, into the heel cut).

I love the way that you tilted the pickups. Ratio's rule! Extrapolation is.

Flateric-
That is stunningly beautiful. And you've got the LED powered up to boot! Very cool.
+1 for showing us all a level of craftsmanship we can only aspire towards . . .

Beauty! i've wondered which fret should be perpendicular and leaning toward wherever my hand lines up while holding it. yours looks pretty close to how i have pictured and i haven't studied the 'crafty' method yet, tho' my friend has, with a fanned fret lutar which i talked him into oil-finishing. Outstanding job!
