First off, let me say that I Love, yes LOVE, the sound and feel of my new SRV Strat. I guess youd expect that all would fall into place when you spend big bucks on a guitar...right?...WRONG!
After reading this you may think im petty, you may think I made a big deal out of nothing...It begins.
A few days after bringing the guitar home I took off the backplate to see and perhaps adjust the trem springs. The back of the plate had these horrible looking scratches all over it, and I must say I was a little surprised that it had slipped by quality control at the Fender plant. I e-mailed Fender, and was told to ship it to them, and theyd examine it and determine if I should get a new one. hmmm? I thought.
Fast forward a week...While happily picking away at my beloved SRV, my daughter notices that the strap buttons are 2 different colours?? The one on the body is gold, and the one on the upper horn is silver. Well ALL hardware on SRV Stratocasters are gold. Again, someone at quality control was asleep at the switch. AND ( This gets better)...Theres a welt about an inch long that has been painted over right on the end of the guitar body near the strap button. Its hard to notice because of the black paint. Its clear though, that it was done at the Fender workshop. Strike 3 for quality control. My feeling after that?? GRRRR!
The next day as fate would have it, I got my reply from a Mr. Matyniak from Fenders P.R. department. In short, they felt since you couldnt see the scratches ( being on the under side of the plate ) they would not replace the backplate. I was upset to say the least!
I called the music store where I bought the guitar. They offered me a full refund, or theyd get me a new SRV Strat.
Guys, I love the sound and feel of the SRV!....so I asked them to order me a new one. Itll take a month since there are none at the warehouse and im in Canada, but im willing to wait it out.
Whats wrong with Fender?...are they that full of themselves that they are putting quality control, and customer service low on their priority list? Youd think when you drop close to $2000 on an American made guitar, that there would be some pride in their workmanship. True, these things ive ranted about do not affect the sound of the guitar. But to me, when im paying top dollar, I expect perfection. Fender could learn a thing or two from Paul Reed Smith.
Ill post some pictures when I get my trem cover back in the mail.
Thanks for listening guys!
