Anyone? Anyone?
I love the sound of em. So huge, but so well balanced for being all mahogany. When I can finally gather the coin, I will get one.... discontinued or not.
Any other martin fans out there?

Sure, I like a good Martin. My brother got one of their budget guitars (~$550) and it sounds great. I believe it was the DXM.

Martin?? Count me in! I mean who wouldnt want one. I just cant justify spending thousands of dollars on an acoustic guitar. I think Martin acoustics are the high end Fender/Gibson of the non-electric world. Now if I won the lottery... Then not only will I have a Martin, but with all of that cash ill have Mrs. Martin as well! ;D

My acoustic axe of choice (ok, my only one) DC1XE - I paid something like $600-$800 for it (three years ago). Came set-up great, sounds very solid (needs a tune-up, but that's to be expected). Played on it solid for these three years and haven't really had a complaint.

I'm with the rest here. As far as acoustics go, I'd choose a Martin over anything I've ever heard. In fact, barring finding an awesome sounding guitar at an unbelievable price, Martins are about the only acoustic I'd ever seriously consider dropping any cash on. I have an old Korean Fender flat-top, but that's really just to say I have an acoustic more or less. I'm totally an electric man. But, if I ever had a grand or so to spare, I'd love to pick up a nice Martin. They're the sweetest sounding box I've ever heard.

I've never played or heard played a Martin I didn't like. Beautiful work. Fantastic sound. Maybe I could get one if I sold one of the kids...

They do seem to sound good whatever style you play. They seem to respond really well to you... Last week at a friends house/home studio, a friend picked up my friends D 28. He played some Bach (really well, actually). I picked it up later and did a little Beatles/blues/James Taylor (not quite so well). Later the owner picked it up and played some Spanish stuff on it. My point is, that each time the guitar responded just how each of us wanted it to. Amazing....

Question on the Martin DXK2. I just got one, love the looks and expect the durability of the materials to go a long way. Yet I could not help but notice two things...1. Weak buzz on low E and A. 2. NO Truss rod? Does this guitar not need a truss rod due to the laminate neck? Sadly I do not think it sounds too much better than my Ibanez EW acoustic electric. Since it is new I have not done any setup changes except for tuning.

I've played some nice ones- in fact most of the acoustics I've played have been based very closely on 14-fret Martins. My long-term acoustic is just a cheapy, but aside from the branding on the headstock, visually you would need a close look to tell the difference. I've always had favourable comments on the tone, too, and though I sometimes feel it lacks a little low-end power, it sits very well into the mix.
I really aspire to own a Gibson J45, but have been served very well by Martins or Martin styles guitars for a long time, and I definitely prefer the gloss finished ones- the are sweeter toned to my ears.
