Saw that MF has these on sale for $299: Gibson Melody MakerAnd W's "economic stimulus" check is supposedly in the mail . . .Ok, I'm stimulated . . . for a Tobacco Burst one. Tempted am.

Better that than spending it all on GAS, even tho I've heard that it's an advance on next year's. Personally I don't file on my current job's measly cash compensation, and W's offer isn't near enough to make me bite. Cheers and Ron Paul '08.

NICE! I didn't realise they were making these again. As an officiated gutar geek though- closed covers on the pickups would be a must-have replacement.

pl- I think MF was closing those out, haven't seen them in their catalog recently. Don't know if Gibby d/c'd the model or if MF just stopped carrying it. I should have jumped on it but didn't. I am assuming that "made in the USA" means Asian parts underwent some final assembly here. In a similar vein, there's this Junior Jet II that's tasty for under 300 bones.

I looked at the Junior Jet a while back. I do have a dream of a Gretsch one day, but a hollow body with a bigsby is the definitive for me. I don't know if it's any use, but the Melody Makers are still around in Europe. This is the site for a German company who seem to be able to under-cut on most things in the UK, even with postage included. Sending to the US might not work out quite so well, but heres the site all the same- £241 ain't too bad! www.thomann.de/gb/gibson_melody_maker_eb.htm

I looked at the Gib$on Melody Maker RI a couple of years back when they first appeared. The body was about 1 1/4" thick and I wasn't impressed with them. Of course, I'm not impressed with most Gib$ons, as I feel that they cost about twice what they should. The only actual Gibsons that I have are a faded SG (I tried about 20 of them before I found one with the tone and feel that I wanted - it ended up being one with a four-piece body), and an ES-137 that has great tone and cost me $1,300 new two years back. Ok, maybe they're only overpriced by 50%. The U.S. dollar has gotten stronger lately so importing might work out. www.x-rates.com/(BTW, I saw gas last week for $2.169 per gallon just south of Cleveland, Ohio.) Or 36p per litre. Where I live in west PA it's for sale for the ungodly price of $2.599 per gallon. What energy crisis?

Permission to cry into my coffee, sir. I'm just glad that petrol had dropped below £1 a litre for the first time in about a year. I've got some sausages under the grill, so you do the Maths! Perhaps foolishly, I'm thinking of buying an Analogman Mini-Chorus. The pound is not as strong as it was, and with international postage and import tax, it could prove to be quite an investment. But hey, they don't call us Guitarnuts for nothing.

Ok, I've finished my dinner now! Based on the cheapest petrol I've seen around, at 94.9p, we're looking at $5.75 a gallon. If my working is correct, of course...
