I've been asked many times about email notifications whenever a new message appears in any given thread. Seems I was living under a rock, as I thought that ProBoards couldn't/didn't do that. I was wrong. Newer member andywelsh pointed out that if you bookmark a topic, you can go to your Profile screen, and click on "Bookmarks". At that point, you'll see one of two things..... if you have no bookmarks, you'll get a line of text that is obviously a link, with the words "Click here to manage your bookmarks preferences." (Yeah, I know, but they're in California, that should be explanation enough. ) If you do have bookmarks, then you'll see a list of them, with a link in the upper-right corner of that list, saying "Manage Bookmarks". In both cases, you can set the default behavior for notification of topic updates. (Notice that the word 'bookmark' itself is a misnomer - it's not a shortcut link as you'd expect, it's a bad way of saying "notify me when someone posts to this topic".) Additionally, if you have one or more bookmarks active, you can select the behavior for each one individually - PM, regular email, or nothing at all. So how do you get the ball rolling? Easy! At the bottom of every thread/topic, there are a couple of links. On the left, you'll see "search" and "bookmark". (Lower case as printed on the topic page itself, don't look at me!) Hit the desired button, and you're off to the races!! Hope you all enjoy! sumgai

Thank you andywelsh, and +1 for finding this. I think it comes at a good time, too. I have coincidentally noticed a bit of diminishing traffic around the forum lately, and there are some familiar names that have been missing. I won't name them, but it would be nice to see more of them. I know it's summer (in North America, anyway) and that stuff happens and people get caught up with important things that trump GN2, but I also think that if interested parties were to use this function that andy has discovered, we may have more traffic and participation around here - which would be great! DD,
Last summer it was the same thing, and IIRC about the summer before (2006), that too was a little shy, participation-wise, compared to the "winter" months. But we do have a few new faces around the 'House that see the Southern Cross at night, so maybe it won't be so bad as you fear. <keeps fingers crossed>

Hiya
Thanks for the +1.
All I can say is sometimes it helps to be a newbie. I'm glad I was finally able to be of help to someone else after all the help/info I've gleaned from this website. Apart from being probably the most useful guitar site on the web, I find it extremely addictive to just browse around! I'm sure many others agree and it will continue to grow.
Thanks again
Andy
