I recently re-purchased a all tube amp that I used back in the 90's. I sold it to a friend about 7 years ago and regretted selling it. I finally talked him back out of the amp since he didn't use it. The tubes need replacing, but I'm glad to have it back to play with. So, can you guess what it is?? I used a cheap MP3 player with a record feature/with built in mic close to the speaker bottom, not a very good way to record, but hey... it's for fun! ;D FYI...I used a Charvel Guitar with a Dimarzio Super 3 humbucker. www.timecaptures.com/guitar/samp1.mp3

Here is another crappy installment lol, I don't know which has the most distortion, the amp or the recorder...lol. This time I am using my Warmoth with the Tone Zone humbucker split using the south coil from The BIG Ugly wiring. Sorry for the distorted recording and crappy playing, but its fun... I'm still looking for a guesser for the AMP! www.timecaptures.com/guitar/samp3.mp3

I'm going to go with Peavey Classic something, probably a 30. I have a Classic 50 that has a similar distortion sound.

Cool, I remember the Classic! Your very close with your guess! I wish I could do better with the recording (and playing...lol) The amp sounds so much better, the recording doesn't sound near like the live sound.
Hint, the amp came as a one channel with a 4x12 cabinet.

One channel? And it sounds like that? I'm guessing it's tough to get a clean sound on this then!
Man, I wouldn't know then. Any more hints?

Well, they had two versions of these amps, a 60 and a 120. Mine has 4-12ax7's and 2-6L6's which makes it the 60 watt version, the 120 had 4-6L6's.

Well I'd say 5150, but that was 2 channels, so I'm stumped. But it was a 120w head and 412 cab that was available in a 60w combo.

I wish I could have made better recordings to justify the sound of the amp... The amp is a Peavey VTM 60. I purchased two of the amps around 1991-92, one for me and the other for my brother. I bought them from a guy that played on The Nashville Now show named Fred Newell. At that time he was endorsing Peavey. My brother recently changed his tubes out. He put in Tungsol's 12ax7's and Tad's 6L6gcstr's. His amp sounds amazing. Here is a picture of mine... While I'm at it... here is my other amp setup. Hafler Hellrazor tube preamp - it has 2 12ax7's 2 - Alesis Midiverb II's NRG by ASI - 125x125 Stereo Poweramp (cheapo) 2 - 2x12 GK Cabinets with Celestion's (from my GK 250ML experience) I also have a Digitech GSP-7 Preamp processor and a GK 2000CPL Preamp.

Well, I had the right brand at least! Peavey tube amps are really under-rated. My Classic 50 has been awesome to me for ten years.
