Just popped some of these in my Strat, in my case, 2 Area 58's with an Area '61 in the bridge. I've been sheilding my Strats (QTB mod) for a while now, and while it certainly makes a difference, I still have some hum issues in certain environments. I bought a noise supressor (ISP Decimator), but that created problems of it's own and really wasn't a good solution. I kept it for about two weeks before flicking it off.
I've tried SCN's (used to have an HSS US Deluxe), but I was never happy with those. I'd heard about these new Dimarzio Area's, so I decided to chuck 'em in my new 08 American Standard and give em a go. I am really impressed. These really sound genuine. They are very authentic sounding and seem totally noiseless. I did get a tiny bit of hum when it was right next to my laptop, but nothing when I held it up to flourecent lights, even with gain pedals on.
The 61's are just slightly higher output than the 58's, great for the bridge, or for a slightly more bluesy SRV type sound in the neck. They really quack in the in-between positions too.
I don't know if they are identical to single coils in terms of frequency response, but I find it very difficult to hear any difference. They even have bevelled magnets for a vintage look.
If you're still having a problem with hum, these are well worth a try. I've been playing Strats a while, and I'm big on single coils. These are the best noiseless ones I've heard. Worth a look.
Here's a video of me jammin' with them:
