Being that I have 3 strat-styles, one being a real Strat, I'd have to go with that one. I wouldn't call my Kramer a Super Strat though since it has only 1 pickup and 22 frets. I do love playing my Epi Les Paul though. home.earthlink.net/~ehansen3/diy/gear.htm

Gotta be Superstrats. Leo hit -the- body shape dead on, and with very little variation it can look anything between vicious and down right mellow, and still be -way- comfortable. I prefer a bit more heft and beef than Fender commonly delivers, however. ;D

I voted for semi-hollows, but I like my 335s and Les Pauls equally. Nothing sounds better than a well built 335 or a LP with P-90s

I voted for strats. This prob sounds old but no other guitar has the strat sound. I love the sigle coils trebley ping pangy sound. Ill go as far as saying that allot of other guitars are just getting a free ride on another guy idea.

.. I think I should've written "Superstrats (24 frets and floating trem)" instead of the other F-word in the poll table ;D ;D

Good to see that it's not all Strat lovers out there... Who's the other 335 lover? You don't have to be afraid you can revel yourself without fear of being stoned to death

Looks like I'm still the only Tele guy here. While I have to admit the Strat style guitar is a great design I think Leo got it right the first time. A Tele in the mid posistion is just perfect, and bridge mode with all that metal around it, has THE tone. IMHO.
However 1 of the 2 Teles is a Nashvile (3 pup) model, which has the 2/4 Strat positions, kind of best of both worlds. So I guess I'm a little bit in both camps really.

well, i didn't vote cuz i'm an unrepresented minority in this poll. (and that doesn't happen to me often, being a white male in the US.) my first love is 60s designs: jags, mosrites, etc. and the models influenced by those (60s yamahas, guyatones, etc.). my main guitar's a remake of the guyatone LG-200T by eastwood. but i'm probably an oddball and make up a fraction of a percent of members.
RJB, you're not alone in liking teles. don't have one, but i've almost bought one of those nashvilles at least twice. that guyatone reish has 4 pickups (Strat) and i'm planning to install a steel plate on the bridge PU for more of a tele twang. i love that slightly metallic tone that is still somehow warm. hopefully a fralin-like plate will approximate it.
but happyguy is probably right: alot of other guitars are just getting a free ride on another guy's idea. most guitars are pretty much a variation on a theme--or a combination of 2 themes.

OK - since you insist! I have voted for 'Whatever', on behalf of my Shergold 'Masquerader'. Shergold was a small craftman based builder in England in the '70s and early '80s. Unfortunately they are not made now, but they have a dedicated following, and a very good web site www.shergold.co.uk. They are characterised by the extreme excellence of their necks, and some wild ideas on pickup switching. Check out the site, all the circuits are there, plus you can hear the sounds. Obviously Ive tinkered with mine, you can see my ammended circuit on au.geocities.com/guitarcircuits

John H, you're the 1st person i've "met" that plays a shergold. never played or even seen one (except in pics) but they're supposed to be fine instruments. the man who founded shergold was formerly with burns, and the shergolds remind me of a cross between burns and the alembic-inspired guitars of the time, like the ibanez artists, yamaha sc series, arias. etc.
which brings me to my 2nd love (after 60s surfy-styles): japanese guitars of the 70s and early 80s. yamahas, aria pro ii's, and electras. i love their feel. they are mass-produced for the most part but also have a feel of good craftsmanship, careful choice of fine woods, etc. a nice synthesis of machine work and attention to detail. sort of like a PRS but w/out trying to be so pretty. if i was choosing solely on FEEL, i'd go with those. unfortunately, they made few SC models then. besides, i really love 60's styles.

TEXTI have owned and played many a guitars in my short 24 years of playing. I've played the Les Paul style, the V- both orig and Rhoads style, Warlocks and Biches , but I still love my 2 Jackson strats.

Well, I voted for Teles, too, since my main guitar is a mid 80s MIJ Squier Tele. It gets most of my playing time. I also have a MIM Tele that's extensively modded.
I've been playing my Strats quite a bit lately, though.
And I have a couple of guitars with P-90s, which I love.
Now, here's a question. What do you call guitars like a Kramer Classic and Fender Heavy Metal Tele that have the Tele shape but a floating trem? My HM Tele has an H/S/H pickup config (with Ibanez V-series pickups) and a Floyd. My Kramer is still in the build stage but will have a SD Custom 5 bridge pickups and two singles of some sort, also with a Floyd.

GuyaGuyUh, Guya, I think you can get in the "uniquely-shaped guitars" part :? (should have written "unique/relic guitars", huh?) .. And sorry for not entering "Other guitars" in the poll list .. I completely forgot emerlinI think they still goes in the Tele dept. IMHO, superstrats have smaller body and 24 frets as their definition. Tremolo unit only makes a little difference. (i.e. Strats with floating trem is not a superstrat, even if it's Floyd-Rose)

I guess my strat is "just" a strat. That is to say..an American Standard with 22 frets. Only slightly modded. Vibrato is blocked. Seymour Duncan JB jr. in the bridge. Grover locking tuners. To me...it is SUPER!

I would have to claim that my Aria is my favorite. strat styled, floyd, EMG Sa's and an 85 in the bridge. Followed by a close second by my '72 PENCO paul. Maple body, laminate top, with a 1/4" hollow spot in the arch. I LOVE my Japanese children!! ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D

just bought a standard strat (MZ) about a week ago. it's my (conditional) favorite. such an interesting tonality.
have had a '63 melody maker w/ humbuckers a tune-o-matic bridge, and shaller tuners since '74. wouldn't trade it for ANYTHING! love the narrow, thin neck the light weight of the body, the sweet full clean sound.
now, if i could get the best of both in one just one axe...

Been a stratocaster man for years and years. About a year ago, luck made me cross paths with a deadmint 72 Thinline Tele for 350 EUR / $380. When I say dead mint I mean with the scraps of pastic still under the screws. Every other Thinline I saw went about 600 EUR over here in EU.
The guy who sold it told me "I'm into blues, so I don't like humbuckers" which made me nod affirmatively when I it out. Some people are really crazy -- or narrowminded -- or too rich ... whatever.
This has been my main guitar for the last year mainly playing more jazzy, rhythm stuff, reggae and funk, though I still like the strat for the more rock oriented moments.

I feel kind of like the man driving the Falcon that's pulling up next all the Cadillacs and Continentals but here you go. My Mustang has been a faithful friend for the past 25 years. I vote for the 'Strat' style axes.
