2 cents from a FNG... I chose "whatever" 'cause I'm still looking.
Not being made of money I've had to subject myself to mostly lower-end guits (recalling my old Harmony and Mako Strat copies gives me the willies). I got "rich" one year at tax-time and bought an Ibanez EX that I've come to love and depend on. I also like my Hamer Sunburst Archtop (bought at the very beginning of the line - very soon after they went offshore) which, if you know the lowscale Hamer line, is an amazingly well put together axe - not like the ones I see in the stores today.
I've never played a "real" Strat outside of a music store, & I always wanted one, so after 30 years (yes 30 years) of denying that I needed one, I finally gave in. I got caught up in the whole MIM/MIK/MIJ/MIA debate & decided the only way to get what I really wanted was to piece it together myself. So it's a multi-cultural instrument, but sure plays and looks nice.
I don't think I could choose between them if I had too - I like 'em all.
Maybe if I got ANOTHER guitar as a tie-breaker? Hmmm....
Cheers

I would have to say my semi-hollow body Ibanez. An AG85trd. Small body. I've been playing it the most lately. I have a Fender Strat 40th Anniversary American Std. (maple neck) and a Dean Evo Special select. Love 'em all!! But lately, I've been daydreaming about a Brian Setzer Hot Rod Gretsch...unfortunately, even the cheaper models are too expensive for my budget right now. Maybe one day........

I have always loved gibsons and marshalls sounds.my black bute will reach to the bottom of your soul....as well as my epiphone 3plus....and they have class in their looks.... But my favorite is a mid to late 80s b.c. rich warlock rave2 24 fret duel hums (seymour duncans-jb4s) and strat stly trem bridge...
The best thing is i payed 150.00 for the guitar and 150.00 in upgrades hefty and heavy well constructed

My Ibanez Pro540R, and my Aria Pro II. (A prototype that was never released.) Although, they are a bit insulted at the "strat style" reference!

I'll play a Strat if there's a nice one available, but for it has to be a Tele. It is the original solid body. As someone on the FDP said, "You don't play a Tele; it plays you."

Strat-style guitars Wheres the Beef?
Superstrats (24 frets and Floyd-Rose,e.g. IBZ JEM) Most have found humbuckers and have thus added a little protein to their diet. Can't wear dresses if you're gonna dive bomb.
Tele-style guitars Good for flossing your teeth without actually touching them
LP/SG-style guitars Mommy! I found the Beef!
Semi-Hollow-Bodies (4 votes, 9%). They've got the beef but are a little prissy Acoustics (1 vote, 2.2%)
Flying V/Iceman/other unique-shaped guitars posture guitars --- require posing in the mirror and never sitting down.
Whatever™ guitars To go where no man has gone before.
Ah this is just for fun.
Let's admit it. Guitar makes are just chassis to us.
We buy serviceable frames then start modding the beJudas out of them.
Our favorite guitar is one we've modded, because what manufacturer is gonna build what we want. And most of us can't afford to have a shop do it. After we mod them they ain't really anything like their legacy. I have strat types that crank as nasty as any of my duallie -hums, and gibby types that go all lilty when in cut coil, or both coils parallel and playing through clean settings.
Once you cross over to building one, then you'll build another. Pretty soon you have a harem and you like each of the ladies for different reasons. 'Favorite' is probably a 'grabbing liquid' term that changes with our mood and experiment of the moment.
I hope I never get satsified with a guitar, that keeps me experimenting, searching, seeking and learning from all of you.
I'll settle for nearly satisfied though.

whoa, .. when I started this topic (poll), the selections are intended to be "your guitar base profile". For an example, I like humbucker sound but completely dislike LP shape. the "Guitar makes are just chassis to us" statement is completely right and that's what makes DIYers like us. This thread was not intended to poll what brand you like most, but what "chassis" (I borrow your term ) you like most. This is a good analogue in the automobile world : *** Poll Q: Enter the car type you like to DRIVE most. Poll items: 1. sedans 2. trucks 3. monster trucks 4. SUVs etc.. .. and if that is your final answer with the poll, IMHO you should have chosen Whatever™. like what JohnH did. hope that clears everything ..

hope that clears everything .. Nah, 'whatever' is not it. My 'base' is still my LesPaul, and will always remain my favorite. Maybe then the poll could be What is your Favorite Configuration:Set neck -------- y, no Bolt-on Neck --- y, no Pickup Array HH, ---------- y, no HSH, -------- y, no SSS, --------- y, no HSS, --------- y, no HHH --------- y, no other -------- y, no Wiring config S -------------- y, no P, ------------ y, no both ---------- y, no Electronics Passive ------ y, no Active -------- y, no Finish Nitro,--------- y, no Poly, --------- y, no Oil, ----------- y, no None--------- y, no Neck Maple stock, ------ y, no Mahgony Stock, -- y, no etc Fretboard Rosewood, - y, no Maple, ------- y, no Ebony, ------- y, no Other--------- y, no BodyETC. Since the poll is a simple matrix, the above may be difficult to capture in the board's poll structure. But I see now where you were trying to go. Maybe restrict (voluntary) comments to those who vote.

yeah, you're right. should've been like that.. but for the sake of simplicity, let's just leave it as it is. or make a new poll, maybe.

A-ha...another Jeff Beck Fan...
Well, there you go...a beautiful, comfortable design, often imitated but never been supersceeded. Wide variety of tones, a great trem and a whole range of sounds from clanky clean to overdrive rock.
Oddly enough I was always a LP player in my youth. But Beck said it best of his LP period. It's like driving a rolls royce...if you want to have fun and cut up the road, you want a hot rod you can toss about (para-phrased)...the strat will always do that....

My first serious guitar was a Les Paul standard. The only thing I didnt like was the weight. Jimmy Page slouched for a reason guys!!...and im a big guy! My favourite of all time is the Stratocaster. The look, the sound, the way I can make a sound thats my own. In my opinion only single coil pups will do that, and nothing looks better then a Strat with three single coils. The 60 cycle hum only adds flavour.

Semihollow - I have an Ibanez AFS75T (w/Bigsby) that I think will be spectacular when I find the right pickups. Also have Strat and Tele wannbees that are so modded only the shape remains, Steinberger GU (weird but cool). Favorite "sound" is John Lennon/Casino, Steve Howe/ES-175, Pete Townshend/SG&Strat and of course Jimi. All that said, the Strat is the most comfortable guitar I've ever held in my life. Guitars are like chili - everyone's sure they have the best recipe....enjoy them all!!!
