I bought two TungSol 12ax7's and installed them for my Hafler Hellrazor preamp today. I must say I could tell a difference. I made a recording with the old tubes. I changed the tubes to the new TungSols without changing any of my settings and made a new recording trying to play the same stuff. I could tell a difference even before I compared the two recordings. Then new tube had more volume, more gain, they seemed brighter or more articulate. The noise was much better, especially when you crank the gain up. The old tubes had a lot of hiss when the gain went past 7, but the TungSol don't have the hiss, even on 10. I want to install a set for my VTM amp, but will need to save some $$. The VTM has 4 preamp tubes. I would also like to change the power amp tubes from the 6L6GC's to the TAD 6L6WGC-STR's. I sampled the TAD's a couple months ago in my amp, I really liked them...
