Ash - Thanks for that. It sounds like it probably works exactly the same way as my buffer cable. Using two batteries could give more head room, but not really needed IMO in a unity gain buffer taking a guitar signal. But it then leads me to conclude that to get it biased in a way that it can use that 18V, there needs to be some more components inside the jack, (extra biasing resistor and decoupling cap) instead of just the transistor and one resistor. It would be interesting to take one apart.
As to price, the electronic components of mine can be bought for less than $2. But they are also giving you a good box and plug and a nice pink cable to go with it.
Actually, if its well made, I think its worth $150 because they are very useful gadgets.
And don't worry too much. We have the QTB to protect us from STDs (Serious Transients of Direct current)
