About five years ago, I might have jumped (no pun intended), but now it's just anticlimactic.

ux...
Yep, me too.
Im kinda tired of Eddie. He has to re-invent himself, I mean how much doodle-e-oodley can a guy listen to??
I respect him as a great guitarist, and I do have 4 or 5 VH cd's, but there time has come and gone. They arent fooling anyone. This is only being done for the money.
Im going to make a prediction....
The tour will be cancelled half way through.....Eddie & Dave just cannot see eye to eye. Eddie used to complain that Dave is too much of a rock star ( duh) Truth is, Eddie is very much a diva as well.

Eddie used to complain that Dave is too much of a rock star ( duh) Not with that Bluegrass release of VH songs he ain't ;D, what a joke. I'll add a prediction: I think we'll see more press on Valerie's diet than we will about this tour. ....Now just watch.... It'll be the best thing they've ever done and we'll have both missed out on it .

You think it would be anti-climatic? You feel that this reunion will have some deleterious effect upon the weather? Personally, I think it could even be anti-climactic. (Okay, I'll stop being a jerk).
To me, the reunion might be similar to Axl Rose's attempt to keep a semblance of a career going with a Guns and Rose's lineup that has few (if any) of the original group.
David Lee Roth rejoining Van Halen after 22 years is too long of a time to reclaim some of their fanbase.
That's just my opinion of course.

Eddies 15 minutes are up as well. He knows, Dave is the man for the job. Eds attitude, ego etc, fueled with his drug addiction have rendered him obsolete and unable to make proper decisions. I know, I know it was "booze", but alcohol is a drug...you just drink it. Its too bad. EVH set the world on fire 30 years ago. WE have moved on....he has not. This brings up a point I have stated in the past. I believe if Jimi Hendrix, Jim Morrison....you know, the legends who have died young were still alive, they would be making mediocre music at best. They have only so many tricks up their sleeve. When they are gone, its over. They end up on some retro 60's tour with pot bellies and blue haired groupies. EVH's problem.....hes still livin! Theres your challenge Eddie.....prove me wrong!

Well...at least he got a new hair cut (to go along with that tongue cut). When I got the "Special" Guitar Center 5150 rag, I honestly didn't recognize him. I think Eric Clapton has broken that "still livin" mold, as did Jerry Garcia (GD's groupies always had pot bellies!) before he died . I've got the pot belly, but no blue hair as of yet thankfully. After I posted this thread, the Mrs says she'd like to go, just to say she saw them almost original (Michael Anthony has defected to Sammy), as does one of my buds who saw one of their first shows in Chicago, and their last show here as well.

I'll go with ux on Eric Clapton. Of course, I never really knew him as the "original" slowhand, and seeing as he's still around I figured he always was just what he is now... a slightly older rocker guy with great chops. I've always thought VanHalen was great, but it does seem a bit like he's been fishing (mostly for a front-man) for a while.
Can I add that, no, I don't really care. And can I also add that I think it's odd to name your child Wolfgang? Especially when it's your nickname?

I agree with DeepBlue about Eddie Van Halen except I think Ed has already passed the "Legends Who Have Died Young" category. As of the moment, Eddie is 52. Elvis Presley was 42 when he died but I think he just snuck under the "dying young" cutoff point. Yes, Elvis was starting to decline musically and he was starting to get a "weird" reputation. Still, Elvis was young enough to be remembered as a ground-breaking legend, etc. I believe his final concert at Indianapolis was tremendous. Great way to go out. Eddie has had 10 more years than Elvis to work on declining musicianship and a "weird" reputation. I believe that will no doubt ruin his "legend" status.
Of course, he is a lot more famous than I am (or probably ever will be). Just thought I'd mention that in case someone thought I was being derogatory just out of jealousy. I think Napoleon Bonaparte had a great quote about this: "Fame is fleeting but obscurity is forever".

on a slightly related note...
if there was a VH movie, i think that JACK BLACK should play the part of Michael Anthony. Eddie Van Halen should be done by Ben stiller, and Diamond Dave by Owen Wilson.
OK maybe not Owen and Ben-- but Jack Black for sure...
just my $0.02

Most of you posting here and now are a bit too young to remember this, but let me direct your attention to a certain event in October of 1971, at Madison Square Garden. An already-past-his-prime Ricky Nelson got nearly booed off the stage. Why? Well he said it best himself in a song wrote subsequent to that episode: "I learned my lesson well. You see, you can't please everyone, so you got to please yourself." It was a "rock and roll revival" of sorts, and the fans didn't like the fact that he had moved on in his music - they wanted to hear his old hits from 15 years agone. Now, fast foward to this year, and the current culture. Some musicians who made the grade move on, and some don't. Those who don't either have enough charisma to overcome the lack of innovation, and maintain a fan base (remember Elvis's "50,000,000 Fans Can't Be Wrong"? It was his eigth album, yet it was only 3 years after he became a hit!), or they hit the skids, no matter how hard their agent tries to keep them afloat. Guess which two 70's rockers fit that bill? And I don't mean the littlest Red Rocker on the planet, either. What it really boils down to is this: to maintain some kind of attraction for your fan base over the years, and to attract new fans as they grow up, you need to develop, and display, your heart. Some of the simplest music is done from the heart, and it sells a million every time. (Think I'm lying? Look up Burl Ives/Little Bitty Tear.) But most young rockers don't get that lesson early in life, it only comes with experience. Eric Clapton got it, George Harrison pretty much got it. McCartney and Lennon never got it, they are/were resting on their laurels. (McCartney - beautiful tunes, kindergarten lyrics.... Lennon - message is there, but the music sounds like it was done by aborigines, on didgeridoos, while skunked on whatever they smoke down there.) Heart is where it's at - get it, use it, live it, let others see it..... you won't be sorry. Well, speaking of Heart, a little bit of sex doesn't hurt either. ;D That's my core dump for the day, g'night. sumgai

Saw 'em in their prime, no need to see 'em again. Anyway, what once went bad will surely go bad again - they tried to kiss and make up a few summers ago & that project went bust before it ever got started.
Better to back up & redirect to Valerie - I kinda lost interest in the rest of the thread after y'all passed on her. She'd never have "play her cards right" - I'll fold every hand. Her, Rachael Ray, Kat VonD...
Van who? David Lee who?

Shoot, Johnny Winter still plays and someone has to bring his guitar out to him. Eddie's still walking and has a new guitar and amp deal with Fender to boot. What are musican's suppose to do, sit back and just not do jack. If people will buy tickets why not play. If they were within a 100 miles of me I would be there and if you would not go, you're missing an opportunity to see a legend. People still flock to see B. B. King and never plays outside of the blues box anymore. What a bunch of lame talk from you quackers.

Ed inspired me to hot rod ol' yeller the Telemonster. I owe him that. I tuned in to the middle of a live radio broadcast of a '3' tour show-I thought hey someone's doing a VH cover. Ed sounded so much more articulate than the old days (in-ear monitors anyone?), and Mr. Cherone sang it better than Dave, who ruined every show I caught back in the day. If the man does nothing else for the art, I owe the man my deepest respect. I prolly wouldn't pay to watch them now. Peace

The short answer to the original question... No. At least, I don't care any more.
VH kicked some serious butt in their day and breathed life into what was becoming an increasingly stale genre. Big time props to them for all that. The combination of Eddie & Dave was magic. But it's the kind of magic you can't bring back by pretending the spark's still there.
