We haven't had much in the way of specifics when it comes to shielding LP and other rear cavity types of the double HB variety. Here's a post to another forum where I found this thread which has some good tips on using shielding paint to do an LP-style guitar (actually an Ibanez).

... wow! was it something we said? That was the fastest come-and-go ever ... his original message was even sucked out in his vapour trail! There really isn't a big following when it comes to shielding LP's, with their humbuckers and all. I guess he's moved on to greener pastures?

Not much work, really. My Epi LP does not have enough noise to make me even consider shielding it.

D2o-
Did I miss something? Did someone post then delete it?
While most LP style guitars won't have noise issues being humbuckerish types, there are those that use P-90's where some shielding might be beneficial.
I thought the article had some interesting tips on dealing with shielding paint also.

Then I looked again and nada ... no initial post that you responded to. Are you saying that you did not respond to an inquiry, but actually started this thread? D2o

D2o- Yes, I just found the article and posted it. Not in response to anything. When you said: I thought perhaps you were responding to a post which had been retracted. If you weren't, then I'm totally lost as to what you meant.

No, newey is not saying that he didn't say that he's not saying that, he didn't say that.
Confused? You will be. ;D ;D

So does that paint stuff go on the inside or outside of the guitar?

Now that we have decided what this thread is about, I think that a well executed standard LP wiring is one of the least requiring of shielding, since almost every part is inherently shielded. HB Pickups in covers, shielded wire to the controls, very short bare bits to solder to the pots, then inside the grounded pot casings. Even the tone cap can be on the ground side of the tone pot. Then the signal is in screened cables up to the toggle switch, and all the way back to the jack. with only very short bare sections for soldering.
All that is still true with with uncovered pups or even p90's, provided that the pup baseplates are grounded and the leads screened. The resultant single-coil hum would not be further reduced by cavity shielding.
Of course, a GNut version of an LP might well benefit from some shielding!

Strangely, it's all clear now. I have consulted with my split personalities, and the majority agree that the invisible imaginary post didn't happen. They are almost unanimously blaming it on kyle. D2o

I'd like to mention something here, because it seems like as good a place as any.
My LP Studio (HH, shielded single conductor form the pups, shielded cable to the switch) seems to have no noticeable noise issues in series mode. I've never set down to measure or anything, but I've recorded a number of tracks in this mode, and never once said anything like "Holy hooptey that's a lot of noise!"
