Eddie Van Halen still talks about being a tone chaser. I can truly say that I have the tone I want. The tone that I wanted, and heard for all of those years in my head, I have achieved. Alot of trial and error. Alot of tweaking, listening to advice etc. Do you fellas feel you have the sound you want?... Or,Is there always another door?

About two years from now, when we're (hopefully) done with the basement; (the Mrs. says) I'll be "allowed" a room for my music stuff where I can have it all out and ready to go.
Betwixt all my stuff now, I have the sounds/tone I want (or probably could want) though I do not drag it all out on a daily basis. When I practice something new, I usually practice with the acoustic, if I do use an electric, I usually do it clean and then on "jam" days, I play with getting the effects right. Needless to say, jam days are the most fun.
BTW, I can clearly see this thread going O.T. to a "This is all my gear" tangent.

ux... Yes, I was thinking the same thing, and truth be known was going to send along my "lineup" for all to read but opted not to ( Unless requested )
Im like you. I have alot of gear I have to put away while not in use. My amps etc are all in my rec room. My daughter and her friends spend alot of time down there and I dont want things touched. Shes 14, but still....young ones like to touch.

I just changed strings (not my usual brand).... ....tell me about tone unsatisfaction. Seriously, every change, even of your (or at least my) state of mind, seems to effect the final tone.

with tone, im still in the experimentation days. i really dont have a tone that i go after. i dont have the cash for much equipment so maybe thats why. also, i dont like pedals. i find that they clutter my space to much. plus, if you have a wireless kit, then pedals are just something you are either tethered to, or you have to go back for. at any rate, my tone is opposite of my writing. when i write, i hear the riff then figure out how to play it. with my tone, i play it then i tweak it to make it sound the best my budget allows. ;D

I've been playing guitar for over 40 years (and boy are my arms tired ;D) No, I still don't have the tone I want and maybe I never will. As someone else said, I'm still searching to open another door.

I like the tone/s that I am getting, but I still like to tweak. Experimentation keeps you from getting in a rut. There's always a different sound that I haven't found yet. Some are useful for what I play, some are just fun to play around with. Anyway, the quest for tone is always a good excuse for 1 more axe, 1 more amp, 1 more pedal. You know, toys!

cc... You know, I never thought of it that way. It IS an excuse to buy another guitar, amp, stomp box!
Heres the deal...Between us here at GN2 I have my sound. As far as the little ladys concerned...
"Hun, just one more?" ;D

I'm certainly at the beggining of 'the chase'. I have the worst guitar imaginable so I have no problem changing things around inside, however my budget means I'm only just starting to fiddle. Hopefully going to change the caps around, hence why I've been asking about them.
So, I'm nowhere near my perfect sound, hopefully building my first guitar and equiping it with the preffered electonics and hardware will help...
