Hi! I have a problem with the screw holes on a bolt on neck. They are a bit worn out, causing the neck to give away due to the string tension. I tought of using some....filler? (Idon´t know the word) well, a substance that gets hard and you fill the holes with it, but I don´t know if its gonna resist the string tension. Any toughts? Thanks in advance! ....i think the word is putty....

Hi ddb,
Your best bet is to put a toothpick and carpenter's glue into each of the now enlarged holes (or more than one toothpick, depending on how large the holes are) and let it dry for about 24 hours.
The wood that toothpicks are made of is reasonably hard, so it will be far more durable than wood filler.
If necessary, you will have to cut off any parts of the toothpick that protrude out of the hole after the glue has dried, but the result will be a smaller and more stable hole that you can then screw into and be assured of a solid hold.

D2O is exactly right, the toothpick idea is definitely the easiest. Small strips of whittled off maple or oak would be my second choice if the toothpicks don't hold.
If the whole insert concept fails you don't use wood filler. The best thing to do at that point is to drill the holes larger and glue in a hardwood doll pin and re-drill the holes to screw the neck to the body.
Use a drill press for this job, as I don't know anyone with a steady enough hand to pull this one off on all four holes...
Good luck with the toothpicks.

ChirsK -
I've seen those used on metal, but never on a guitar neck. Slick application.
Not one for the novice, though, but that's one for the memory banks...well, more like memory credit unions these days...

Thanks! I´m going to use the toothpick solution, and see what happens, if not, I now got several solutions! I´ll keep you updated! DDB
