It's the End of the Year As We Know It. And I, for one, am hopeful for a better year in 2009, both for the world in general and for this board in particular. But, to remember the good of 2008: NOMINATIONS FOR GNUTZ2 "BEST OF 2008" AWARDS ARE OPEN!! Any member may nominate any post or thread in each category. The number of nominations one can make is not limited. The top three nominees in each category will compete, via a poll, for the overall honors in each category. Make your nominations via a reply to this thread, and those who wish to second ( or third, or fourth) a nomination should do likewise. Post a link to your nomination, please. The overall winners may, in the sole discretion of the Administrator, receive fabulous prizes of a nominal value! ("sole discretion" meaning if, and when, I get around to it.. . . .) They also get a year's worth of bragging rights and a warm, fuzzy feeling all over. The 2008 "Best of GNutz2" categories are:
1) Best completed build or mod of 2008 by a GNutz2 member (Must have been posted here during 2008) 2) Best wiring idea or wiring scheme of 2008 posted here. 3) Best punch line of 2008 Posts made after the posting of this thread are ineligible. As the Administrator, and provider of any awards for this, I am ineligible to compete. All other members are eligible to participate and potentially to win. Let's Have At It!

NOMINATIONS FOR GNUTZ2 "BEST OF 2008" AWARDS ARE OPEN!! 2) Best wiring idea or wiring scheme of 2008 posted here. I would like to be the first to nominate ChrisK for his 3 pickup/3 volume control design. This was one of the only bass designs all year - and it's brilliant. It allows an almost infinite variety of tones with a minimum of switching. You get a Jazz bass, a Precision bass and any variation between the two in a very simple and easy to use package. The 3 volume controls can achieve more then any blender control ever could. You can follow the entire thread hereTo me, this is what great design is all about. Functionality & simplicity in an interface that is quick to learn and almost intuitive to use. Thanks ChrisK Happy Trails Cynical One

Just as "Titanic" can win multiple oscars, Flateric can be nominated for multiple submissions, so I'll take Andy's post as nominating Flat's Gecko 5-String build as well as his neck-thru build.
I love the Beatnik Mojocaster, too, but September 2007 is not . So no nomination there, I'm afraid. If the thread had started in 2007 but lapped over into 2008, then OK.

Ha ha! Well, it was October, but yes, a quarter of a year is a bit wide of the mark! I just thought it was worth passing comment on such a groovy guitar, even out of category.

I couldn't agree more, Andy. flateric build some very nice instruments, and both of the ones you mentioned are beautiful. I just figured that with the detail of the build in the Ric4003 postings it should be a shoe in. Again, flateric, you are the man... Happy Trails Cynical One ...besides, bass players always stick together...

Yeah, I've been remiss in not updating this post sooner. In the wiring scheme category, ChrisK was the sole nominee and must, therefore, be the winner. We had no nominees in the Best Joke category, so no winner there. In the Build category, we had one nominee with 3 different builds- flateric. I suppose we could have a run-off to see which of the 3 was the favorite, but that seems superfluous since he's only competing with himself. Winners should PM me with a mailing address for their wonderful prize packages, which will be shipped as soon as I get around to it. I promise that will be before next year's awards. Given the less than rousing response to this in 2008, I hope everyone will bookmark potential nominees for 2009!
