Im in the process of putting together an Esquire with a lil 59e'r stacked humbucker. Im going to use the Seymour Duncan wiring diagram specifically for this. www.seymourduncan.com/support/wiring-diagrams/schematics.php?schematic=esquire_hbTheir wiring has it where: Switch position 1 is for "series" wiring, which I assume is the hottest setting. Switch position 2 is "split" wiring to split the coil. Switch position 3 is for "Parallel" wiring. What tones/sound does the "parallel" setting produce?? Thanx in advance for your help or any suggestions you may have. Lonesomedave

Always wondered why an Esquier like guitar didn't have a humbucker. Guess the parallel sound would be a thinner vs the humbucking. But why stop there, use a 5-way and throw in some out of phase options, treat it as two single coils, theres not much difference between either coil tho.

The parallel mode will be brighter than the series, which is standard HB config. Might even have a little more top end than the single coil position. Most people seem to think it sounds close enough to a single coil, with a little more overall output. Parallel is just as much "humbucking" as the series.
I almost always choose the parallel option rather than single coil.
I don't think you'd be too happy with the 2 coils of an HB out of phase with each other. This will be very quiet and thin sounding since the coils are so close together and likely very similar. Plus, it'll ruin the humbucking. You'll have twice the noise and likely less than half the signal output.

The other thing that suprised me on the Duncan wiring diagram was that it called for 250K pots intead of 500K.
I always think in terms of 500k with humbuckers and how most people changed the fender 250K pots on the Telecaster Deluxe to 500K to get good decent tone because of the humbuckers.... Any thoughts on that? Lonesomedave-

Lonesome- Since you have not yet been welcomed . . . Hello and Welcome! We.ve had this discussion recently, it's more a matter of personal preference than anything else. ChrisK has often noted that turning a 500KΩ pot down to about "8" will simulate a 250KΩ I have built a dual-rail humbucker Esquire-ish guitar. ("Esquire-ish" in the sense that it contains no actual Fender parts) I like the sound a lot, although as the SD link suggests, there are only fairly subtle differences between the 3 tone options. The parallel HB setting gives a nice Tele-ish twang, and the series HB sounds somewhat humbucker-like. The single coil setting is undistinguished, and I don't use it much. It has a GFS "Hot Rails" Tele bridge pup.

Thanks for the warm welcome Newey! Did you use 250K or 500K pots on your "Esquirish" slab? Lonesomedave

They are 250K, I just reused an old Tele wiring harness that I had lying around.
