Since everyone here always seem so so eager to help "Newbies" let me start out by saying in advance how much I appreciate your help. Thanx to newey already for his help with a tone pot question!
Here's my story:
I have a relic partscaster that with the help of my cousin (who is a pro player in Nashvillle) put together all from prewired assemblies, pre reliced body, etc. I did some of the relicing of the hardware with etching solution, which turned out great and not "over done".
I should say that I was very ill for a year, and in an effort to keep from going crazy, began purchasing all the parts via the internet to build a guitar. When I realized that because of my treatment/medication I didn't have my mental faculties together enough to actually assemble the guitar, My cousin told me to make my way to Nashville and he'd do the whole thing for me in his home workshop.
Unable to make the trip alone, my wife and mom volunteered to take me to Nashville to my cousins house so we could put the guitar together, and they would spend the day shopping.
Its really one of the kindest things by all that anyones ever done for me.
I basically Just watched Lou do the whole thing.
It came out fantastic, and is my favorite guitar ever.
The problem is that I was so ill and mentally unfocused, I really didn't learn much.
I recently have bought all the parts and a nitro thin skin body (cheap!) to teach myself how to do it on my own. The project is to throw an Esquire style guit together with a humbucker, and to relic the whole thing. I bought all the parts so I can learn how to wire it, etc.
I have a basic list of "Newbie" questions that I need help with (more later im sure. You can answer on the board here, or contact via my email address if you don't want too bore all the experts here.
1. Im using an Oak Grisby switch without the spring.
When looking at the wiring diagram, does it
matter which way the switch is oreintated?
I have the side with the PCB looking material at the
top.
I didn't know if the wiring would be right if I had it the wrong
way.
2. Using 22 gauge cloth wire, Do I just push the cloth back to
solder and then let it go back to the solder point?
3, Should I use the shielded wiring cable to the jack, If so, can I
get some at my local radio shack and what should I ask for?
4. I would like to degloss the super glossy finish since I want the
relic look/vibe. I've heard using everything from green
scotchbrite pads, 00000 steel wool, to a a fine cut auto cream.
What are your reccomendations to achieve this look?
5. Using the compressed air for checking, Holding the can upside
down to spray, how far from the guitar surface?
Thats all I can think of now. I appeciate your help!
I attached a pic of my original Partscaster.
