Having bought a new Marshall bass rig (MB4210 combo + MBC115 cab) at the end of last year i have some issues with it overheating after hard playing for maybe 1.5hr (halfway thru the second set) it cuts out for 10 - 20 seconds and then does it again 10 minutes later. I was about to return it for repair/replacement when I noticed the 15" cab was no longer working. I whipped the back panel off and found a dry solder joint on the copper inductor which was very loose on the pcb. Poor QC in Indian factory Now I fixed this with a blob of solder and the cab works again. My Q is, this bad joint or short circuit, would this be the cause of the amp overheating and triggering the thermal cut-out? Or is the amp cooling under-specced? I was playing at about 1/2 volume, it should be able to handle this, but if the amp was trying to drive a zero load (?) ,maybe the amp is fine and sorting the cab will solve the issue. Any opinions/advice ? Thanks!

I reckon it could just be that joint in the cab. That inductor is probably in series with the bass driver, so if it loses connection, no sound. Seems like the amp is OK, so I hope that has fixed it

This doesn't guarantee that you are on the right track, but I tried using a 15ohm bass cab with a 4ohm cab on top a few years back- this made the amp behave in exactly the way you have described, so with any luck, fixing the speaker will have sorted the issue.
