I bought a strat kit a while back, and asked some of you some questions... Well, I finished it a few months ago, and I never posted any pics. I tried to do the swirl finish, although it looks pretty cool, the finish didn't do exactly like I had in my head for it to look, but I like it. Got a pretty slick finish on the thang. Made my own water slide for the logo, which is my last name and the serial number is my girls initials and birth date. I put a Dimarzio SDS-1 in the bridge, changed the white pickguard and knobs to all black. Anyway, here it is, plays pretty good considering I don't have much over $125.00 in the thang.. (I already had the pickup)...

Very cool finish, Fireball! Was this one of the Saga kits?

Pretty little guitar.
So, how did you do the swirl finish?

Thanks for the compliments! The kit wasn't labeled as a Saga, although I wonder if it was one. I bought the kid from eBay for about $65 + shipping. The head stock was already cut also. I know that Grizzly Inc. has a kit for $119 that looks just like this kit. On the swirl paint job. This guitar didn't turn out exactly like I had anticipated, but I was cool to me like it was so I just decided to go with it. Here is where I got the idea... www.projectguitar.com/tut/swirled.htmLessened learned, make the paint water thin using mineral spirits! I had the red paint a little too thick, so when I started the sanding process to get ready to clear, I wound up removing some of the swirl patterns trying to get rid of the high spots from the red paint being too thick. At the time the red didn't seem thick, but I had the white and black like water and the red was just a tad thicker, this made a lot of difference in the end. I could have sanded and re dipped, but I just decided to go with it since it is unique! FireBall

I've seen that tutorial, just never thought it would work. It really looks better then I thought it would.
I've got to wait for the weather to break to finish my two guitars. All the routing and sanding is done. Just a little veneer and dye and hard finishing. Then I get to solder the bad boys up.
Again, nice looking guitar.
Happy Trails
