Hey, I bought a pickguard off of eBay a while back that had a SJBJ-1b JB Jr, and a SHR-1 Hot rail installed. The pickguard also had a standard single coil in the neck position and the whole thing was still wired up. I noticed that the SJBJ-1b JB Jr wasn't wired correctly, so I got the ohm meter out and discovered only one coil works, the other coil is totally dead. They had the pickup wired to use just half the pickup.
My question is.. can this pickup be repaired?
Thanks, FireBall
Oh, btw.. the SHR-1 works great, I had it in my strat project and found out it has a nice humbucking thick sound. Right now I have the Dimarzio SDS-1 back there to give more of the single coil cut through sound I was looking for, but the SDS-1 is noisy as HELL...LOL ;D

On the JB Jr. pickup, if you pull the cover can you see all the wires?
I've never pulled a mini-humbucker apart, but there should be four wires off the coil. Can you see any solder breaks anywhere, or loose broken wires off the coil?

Yep. There will be one coil that is related to the wires that you identified as the open coil.
You could try removing the coil from the steel core and carefully unwrapping it to see. There will be three possible outcomes; you will find and fix the open, you will not fix the open, or you will destroy the other coil as well.
However, these pickups usually go for about $20 to $40 used, so I'd just buy another one.

I took the pickup apart after I checked it with the multi-meter. I was thinking it might be a break in the main lead going to the coils, but that wasn't the case. The best I can tell is there must be a break in the coil itself. To bad, I was wanted to see how it sounds compared to the hot rails.
